Money lights came on (braking system)

This morning driving in, the brake warning, ABS and DSC lights all came on (all yellow). :cheer:

So I'm wondering if anyone else has had this .......... and what was the issue. ABS control module pooched ??!??!

Taking in sometime today or tomorrow morning........... with a jar of vaseline.:explode:

sounds like a faulty ABS sensor

Start car , turn wheel all the left , then all the way right and all the way to the left again and they should reset. This might be a faulty steering sensor, but many have reported the reset fixes the problem perminently.

I was told it's the ABS control module on it's way out ............ $2000 CAN at the stealership as I checked with my "buddy" in the parts department. Yeeeah baby !!! :wow:

The lights never came back on the next time I drove it though. Not sure what that means............... maybe my X5 is self healing ?!??!?!

Oh yeah, the front end steering is all clunky............ especially over the bumps.......... something else I gotta fix now too.

I had the same issue, plus the speedo crapped out. Turned out to be a bad wheel speed sensor in the back. (They run the speedo and feed info to the ABS computer and traction control) Total cost was $138 installed. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I would have your codes read by a BMW DIS, GT1 or Autologic computer. I had this problem just a month back and it was a faulty wheel speed sensor. And get a second opinion! I know someone that took the dealership advice and repalced the module, however still had the light on. It turned out to be a faulty abs sensor, but still had to dish out an arm and a leg for an unneed abs module!

Could be the steering angle sensor. thats what mine was....way cheaper then the other stuff mentioned...

I had this happen...

One mechanic shop said it was the Rear right abs speed sensor. Another said it was the steering angle sensor.

Steering angle sensor cost $125
ABS sensor was $150ish.

Eventually the light went out.

less likely it is the abs module, but possible. usually, there is only DSC light come on (brake and abs light do not come on) if it is the abs module fail. most likey it is the steering wheel sensor or abs sensor (someone call it wheel speed sensor, officially called pulse generator, abs). if it is abs sensor, you might notice that your car applies brake unintentionaly when you start to drive before lights come on after each time you start your car. did you do any job on front suspension before?

I have had the same issue for the 3 months I have owned the vehicle. Lights came on a week after I bought it. Sold as seen!! I WILL get round to sorting it one day....! People I have spoken to and the information I have read on forums all say practically the same thing(s) that it could be. An ABS sensor. ABS module. Steering sensor. Steering ANGLE sensor (is this the same thing?).

Would the battery not have to be disconnected prior to this? It did on the merc I had...

ABS sensor, officially called pulse generator ABS, is located in the car's wheel carrier, the part number is 34526756379 for front and 34526756380 for rear. ABS module is the control unit, which is the central computer that controls DSC and ABS system of the car, part number is 34516758627, 34526758629 for repair kit. Steering sensor/steering angle sensor is the same thing, it located in the steering wheel column part number is 37146760232. All part numbers are for pre-facelift X5.

Got my x5 back from stealer the same day after turning it in for yellow abs, brake and dsc lights came on.It turn out to be R/R wheel speed sensor parts and labor $217.50 O' and service engine light also so replaced mass air flow meter $402.32 so ran me about $700.00 total,i know ouchhh,WTF...but it runs so smooth now.there was a couple of other things which i didn't agree with and would have cost a total of $4,700..Ya right, i will have my own mechanic look into that:nanana:

sobi6111 07-26-2009 10:45 AM

Had same lights, but was due not ABS module, but due to faulty engine wiring. Replaced at 70k miles,no problems after that. Hopefully your problem is a cheap fix,as mine was about 3000$ at BMW dealer,as no one else wanted to deal with it
