Burning Oil

I have a 2001 X5 112,000 miles. The car is burning oil.

I have to keep adding oil. Can anyone tell me what to look for?

I see no leaks underneath the car

I have to add 1 quart every 1.5-2k miles

You're kidding, right?

Not unusual consumption, "normal" by any BMW standards, etc.

I think mine is consuming more than that. I top it up after every second fill-up.

Unless you see smoke, it isn't burning it, it is consuming it. Like they all said, that is normal.

Still, if you are concerned, drop the skid plate and see if you are leaking. That plate will catch most fluid loss before it hits the ground, so you could have a slow leak and not know it. Check the valve covers, drain plug, pan to block mating area, etc.

If that search turns up nothing, your consumption is normal.
