2004-2006 X5??

Does anyone have suggestions on which year you should buy a CPO X5 4.4?

They are all good. The 2004.5-2006 will have the adaptive HID's and large Pano-roof.

I think the 06 4.4 had guage rings like the 4.8is.

I am sure others will also add in here.

Any one of those years will be good, all of those have the same possible issues:

- window regulators
- transmission
- bump stops in hatch

Thanks for your thoughts. Any suggestions on a newer X5. I was thinking about trading my 04 4.4 for a new one. Maybe 08-09??

I would never buy trade with a dealer. They rape you. Take the time and sell your truck and buy the one you want second had. Unless you just have excess money to blow... :)

Ever think of just moving to a 04-06 4.8is? I have had both the 4.4 and 4.8. needless to say just sold the 4.4. Lol

Thanks. I agree. The dealers want too much. The CPO waranty is nice, but you pay for it.

Did you ever have white smoking coming out of your 4.4 after idling for long periods(drive thru)?

I did, it was clearly a coolant leak from a cracked coolant overflow tank.
Took it to the dealer under the Chrysler maximum care service contract.
6,000 dollars later they tell me the care is ready to be picked up.
Service sheet states no coolant leak found.

12 miles down the road the check coolant light comes on.
Dealer is closed so I limp home get the car in the drive way fluids are pouring out. Next day the X goes back to the dealer on a flat bed.

Lo and behold cracked expansion tank sheesh go figure.

Now the car is back for what I am sure is a bad ignition switch, but they want to yank my dash apart because they are sure the BMW Aux cable that has been on the car for 3 years is the culprit (REALLY!!!)

Interesting: why would it be necessary to yank a dash apart to gain access to the BMW Aux cable.
All it takes is removal of the radio a 15 min job? Somebody is smoking something.....:dunno:

I had the coolant expansion tank replaced..lucky for me the tank exploded while the dealer was testing my vehicle. Fortunately, it was still under warranty. I found another thread saying it might be a head gasket? Any thoughts on this?

Wow, $6K...

Denis0331 01-08-2012 05:16 AM

yeah?!?! ...6k.... cooland expansion tank is like $60...15 min of work to replace it...i just did mine few months ago with ..i dont know why people go to dealer at all when u can buy parts and do everything yourself...if u dont know how ...u can learn here or u tube..for 6k u could of went to tech school and learn how to rebuild your engine and transmission..and do body work...lol ...what a joke...most of those guys look at manuals too only difference between them and u is they got state of the art equipment and tools...and all u have is bunch of guys who love their cars and trying to figure shit out on their own...i say screw dealers
