Tire Pressure on 235/65 17's, What does everyone Run them at...

Hello,
Just picked up a 2001 X5 3.0i on June 20th and I will make a thread tonight or tomorrow w/ specs and pics. I got a great deal w/ a one owner that babied this X5! Also the dealer that i bought it from was great! They gave me a brand new set of floor mats (OEM) and found me a cargo cover.

The BMW dealer added new tires when they took this on a trade in. I was wondering what pressure other members run these tires at. I read in the owners manual that they say 32 ppi for front and back but i feel that they are to low. I know that the Factory sets a tire standard for comfort and so on... I was thinking about puting them at 35-40 ppi so that i could get better mpg.

Lets see "the owners manual say's 32 ppi for front and back" That being the case i would conclude the designer and manufacture of your vehicle might have some credibility regarding proper tire pressure. Perhaps sticking with those instructions might be best.

On my 2003, I ran them at 32 as I found it the best compromise between ride, handling, and tire life.

I sold the vehicle at close to 70,000 km, on the original tires, and there was lots of life left on them. Never rotated them, and they were worn very evenly.

I think 38 is much too high, you will wear the centre of the tread.

:iagree: I have always run 32 all round on 17's and 19's unless there was a load in the rear and never had any problems with uneven wear etc.

32 does 'look' a little low

Thanks for the info. I will just set them all at 32-35. I think they just seem low while i was wash her last night... Maybe i am just so use to looking at my '93 Rangie w/ 225/75 17's.

I will just check the tire pressure tomorrow morning when the X has been sitting over night (cold) to get a true number for each tire.
