Selling an 2002 X5 3.0i for salvage??
I have an 2002 X5 3.0i Sterling Gray Metallic with a crack in the cylinder heads (no other problems with the vehicle). Therefore I would have to put in a new or remanufactured engine. Has anyone ever salvaged an X5?

Replace the head and continue to enjoy the vehicle yourself.

Before you go down that road, did you have someone actually check the block for signs of damage? How about the pistons?
Cracked cylinder head is of course bad, but if the bottom end is ok, you can perhaps just get a new head. If you are thinking about a new engine, or scrapping it anyhow, you might as well pull the motor and see how bad the damage is. It could save you a lot of money, if the rest of the car is in good shape. It would be a shame to toss the car (and value) for just a cracked head. Of course, you do need to figure out why it overheated in the first place, but if its a thermo or a water pump, that's a $100 fix. Or I will give you $200 for the whole thing right now, no questions asked. |
$500

Dibs on the carpet if its black.

Dibs on the rear seats if they're heated and black.
