Virtual X5 show (Just for Fun)

Im sure some of the older members will say that this has already been done but whatever. On this thread please post a description of your wheels (year, model, options, etc), significant mods (putting in a cargo liner is not significant) and of course pics. Ive gotten alot ideas from this site and seen alot of cool pics but i had to spend hours digging through stuff. Hopefully this thread will help further inspire my fellow newbies. Have a nice day.

Again, this is just for fun. Haters need not reply.

you have good taste! when are you getting those running boards? you should consider painting your lug nuts IMHO :)

ljnlaw 07-12-2008 05:01 PM

Vincenzo, where did you buy your AFE?

I was thinking that may be my next mod, what do you think of it?

Bimmer360 07-12-2008 05:03 PM

I had AFE but went back to stock. ITS NOT GONNA MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE but a little roar that's it. Plus, you will fail on your smog test.

Got it from autoanything.com for $275. I love it. Gives the car a nice subtle growl at low speed. Growl barely noticeable over 45mph..ish. Measured 10 extra horsepower. Worth every penny IMO. No smog test for me.

how long did it take you to install the SSG steering wheel? Id love to have those paddles.

Bimmer360 07-12-2008 06:42 PM

the wheel has to be sent to a shop for installation. Takes couple of weeks and will cost you $800 or so i think, but the actual wheel itself, takes about 5 minutes.

did u get your engine and transmission software modified so the gears change faster? if not, seems like a bit much to pay just to relocate the gear shift. am i missing something?

Bimmer360 07-12-2008 07:06 PM

its stock and they respond pretty much the same on the shift knobs. It's fast enough for me and if i modify it then it will be more than what i need. So i am cool the way it is right now.

I got the wheel from jay (member here), when he was parting out his X5 back in January and i got it for $575.

sounds like this mod is mostly for looks and for that purpose it totally works..

Bimmer360 07-12-2008 07:19 PM

yes, just looks. I hardly even use it myself. But the feeling is different with 2 paddles on each side of your wheel, without them feels like there is so much room in there.

gotcha. u should def try the AFE intake. looks cool, sounds great and improves power all for less than $300:thumbup:

Bimmer360 07-12-2008 07:30 PM

i did and i sold it. No power gain, just a little roar. Mrbmwx5 and zerochief can attest to that and me, the third one.

what did u use to measure power? i used this http://www.myradardetector.com/passport_g-timer.htm.
consistenly clocked max power of 325hp with the AFE intake. 315hp pre installation.

Bimmer360 07-12-2008 07:53 PM

i meant no "noticeable" power gain. 10hp might be so little that you cannot even feel the difference? How much does those gadget cost? If you feel it, good for you. I might go to dinan route, but not on my priority list, but wont go back to afe. But if it works for you, that's a good thing. So you're facelift right? Coz, we prefacelifts, we have under 300HP stock. :banghead:

originally retailed for over $200. i bought one last year on "sale" for $149. you can get them now at amazon for $80. product works great but has a very limited customer base.

what year did the E53 get a facelift?

Bimmer360 07-12-2008 08:22 PM

2004. Mine is 2001 and i have either 275 or 290 stock.

your car has the looks of a machine with much more horsepower. guess all that matters is that it gets the job done for you...in style:thumbup:

Bimmer360 07-12-2008 08:36 PM

i get that a lot, but its pure stock. Im too old for modding engines, what i have is more than what i need so im happy with it. Thanks though!

so why did you have to get them installed? I bought the sports wheel that has the SSG paddles and it doesn't work for me. I'm about to just buy the SMG ///M wheel. I think i got a bum wheel - unless there's something special that needs to happen to install SSG. let me know. My wiring and everything is good..

did it ever work and just stopped? You might want to check the connectors. I got them installed when i bought it from Jay. Otherwise, i would be paying $$$.

Not sure, but I think the back up camera mod for those E53s with NAV is fairly simple...look at this on the DIY page:
