peake fault code analysis
 

Hi All

I am having some intermittent starting problems with my diesel x5 (2001).
Starts on the button every morning rain or shine, or whenever has not run for several hours.

At other times it can be problematic, sometimes taking 5-10 minutes to start after cranking every minute or so.

when driving, it is sweet and no lumpy idling.


I purchased a peake code reader and for those familiar with them, this is what I found.

From 'fc' (fault check mode) press 'go' and reader shows '52' then 'c' then 'ie' then '25' then returns to '--' (which I believe means no more codes found).

I understand this to be a code of ie25.

I cannot find this code anywhere in the accompanying peake booklet, do I need to convert it?

I suspect the starting issue is heat related on a resistor type / sensor item as when cold the car starts like a dream. Only when warm and used several times in the day do I get the problem.

Anyone help?

I don't have my book in front of me but I think it means "IE" is the group of codes and "25" is the code in that group. So you have to look throught the book to find the codes in Group "IE"

Tanks for that, however my peake R5/FCX-3 Book does not contain fault code table 52 or show any codes anywhere as ie25

I am learning the Peake and other aftermarket code readers can give a false reading. For the best analysis, you must get a code read from a BMW or independent shop with a professional grade code reader. Good luck

Sorry. You may want to call PEAKE and see what they say.

Their web site says it's compatable to Deisel X5's too.

Thanks for the input on this, the problem is now solved, it was the cam sensor (only one on diesels).

the code ie25 relates to engine speed management, however this code was the only one being picked up by peake tester.

My local independant picked the same code with one analyser but picked up 'cam sensor fault' on another machine.

Replaced cam sensor (£76.00 inc tax from stealer) and 10 minutes of my time.

This has also cleared code ie25 from peake as well as taking away intermittent starting problem.
