I put petrol into my diesel X5 - PLEASE HELP!!!

I Recently bought a 2005 3.0 x5 diesel, previously i owned a petrol car!!

I put 14.88 ltrs of unleaded petrol, then realised i should have put in diesel!!

I then put in 69.68 ltrs of diesel - on top of the petrol - basically filled up the tank!!

Before i put in the petrol it was showing that i had 50mls to go (diesel)!

I continued my journey on the motorway

An hour later i put in a further 10.23 ltrs of diesel

Then half hour later stopped - 3 hours break

Then 1 and a half hours later i put in 16.04 ltrs of diesel

As for driving i havent felt anything - what am i supposed to feel - will i later?

Is this a cause for concern?

Did i do the right thing?

Please HELP???!!!

RUN FOR THE HILLS!!! just kidding obviously. the best adviceicould offer would be to get the fuel tank removed and cleaned of all fuel and the fuel filter replaced, im not sure if there is a release valve for gas on the x5 but if there is your mechanic should know to open that to get all the petrol out then most likely it will take a few minutes to start but should be fine

NO problem for you, the ratio should be very good by now.
You 'll have a real good cleaning of the combustion chambers with these 15 litres of petrol!!!
Don't worry, no cleaning needed, just try to empty the tank on your next trip.
My mechanic advises me to put a liter of unleaded petrol or alcohol every 10,000Km, in order to clean the chambers, you just did the same with a little more .....

Nothing to worry about. Run it all out of the tank and refill with deisel. I would only suggest you run it out sooner rather than later. Deisel has very good lubricating properties. Petrol/gasoline not so good.

I think people have pretty much said you DON'T have to drain the tank, just run the car dry and fill it up.

Just drain it by driving. The biggest thing you'll notice is maybe a little less power and poor fuel mileage. Think of it as injector cleaner.

The injectors need the lube that deisel gives for long life. The gas/petrol doesn't lube nearly as well as deisel but it burns much cleaner. Gas/petrol also has more additives, than deisel, for cleaning the injectors and valves. No damage will be done by driving the petrol out of the fuel tank; but, I don't suggest you do this every tank full.

I agree with most here.If you were to have any problems ,you would have immediately or on your first refill!Also,your OBD would give you an error code"injection system malfunction."
You were lucky that you only filled it with 16 litres!After this ,you did everything right,topped up with diesel to increase the Diesel /Petrol ratio significantly.
Had it been the other way round(Diesel on a petrol car,you would have clogged up injectors,spark plugs and you would be bowing white smoke through your exhaust for a very long time.
My advice is to go a BMW dealer,get them connect your car to Diagnostics(GT1) just to confirm that you dont have an error in your "injection system".
I am sure the car is fine.

My boss was in Italy, in a rental. An attendant put the wrong fuel in, I forget which way, and so they called the rental co. They sent a flatbed to take it to a dealer to drain. The driver made them sit in the car, on the truck, as he sped down the highway weaving in and out of traffic at high speed. He is a driving ninny, always complaining about people going too fast and all, so he didn't appreciate this at all!

Putting Deisel into a Gas/Petrol vehicle is deadly to a gas/petrol engine. Deisel is made to detonate. This is why the engines are so heavily built. The nock of a deisel engine is the fuel detonating. That much detonation in a gas/petrol engine will make part go there separate ways rather quickly.
