Hey all, Anyone here with a manual tranny find it ridiculous to drive with the a/c on?? With the a/c off I find I get a more syncronous shift engaging the gear/clutch released before applying gas which is different than any other manual I have driven, I'm used to letting off the clutch and applying gas at the same time. With the a/c on I have to apply slight gas before engagement otherwise the vehicle seems to "slam" if you will, into gear. It almost takes full concentration to drive the thing with the a/c on. I was just curious if anyone else experiences the same thing or do I need to take lessons??

There are only a handful of us manual trans X5's here...I don't have
that prob., though I do notice I have to be smoother/more aware
during hard acceleration and gear changes, with A/C on. In slower
speed, normal accels, I don't notice what you describe.

Many of the manual gang, all models in addition to X5s/X3s, have
reported very good results having the Clutch Delay Valve removed
and replaced with a dummy...which reportedly smooths out the
clutch action, which is admittedly sluggish with lack of feel.

A "dummy" CDV can be had here, and any decent mechanic can
install it:

I'm definitely going to look into removing the cdv, thanks for the info. It could be my clutchwork I don't know. Just a side note; all gears are north/south when shifting(except reverse of coarse) but second is down and slightly away. Is this the same for you? It just seems odd to me. My shift into second just isn't smooth like other gears.

Down and away...I think so, but I'd have to go do it and
look. With 2 manual cars and 3 manual scoots, I know they
all shift differently, but I really don't "think" about the pattern
or the "how".

I will admit the first to 2nd shift is often the balkiest, but
a lot of that is the higher 1st gear rpms induced by that
stump puller 1st gear ratio, imo.

Is yours a luckyazz 6 speed or the dinosaur 5 speed in our
'01?

I'm runnin' an 01 5-speed 83,000 mi, although it doesn't bother me much I never really go over 80mph. I think the engine was designed to burn rpm's and the milage really isn't bad. It's funny I say this when I've never taken the car past 5000. Am I neglecting my x??

Our '01 has ~67K miles...I've banged the redline a few times, lol...
mostly in first gear.

Most of that mileage is from trips back to NJ/NY or south to FLA,
so we have run a ton at ~85 mph, and its attendant high rpms.

But, runs like a top, and will be here in our stable for some time
to come.
