For what it's worth.
I am beginning to regret selling my ole 'beater' Ford. Had 115k, no rust, dents etc. Interior was PERFECT. I did ALL the maintenance, changed all fluids and lubes, plugs, wires blah blah blah ...and it ran like champ. I had it for 9 years and thought it was time to upgrade the 'beater' and sold it. Now I have bought a much better beater and am feelin' out in the cold on it's history. Every bump, squeak or rattle sends a chill down my spine. (it's not the X) The point is, really think about the condition it will be in after the repairs. Calculate time/money spent and compare the final total against what you expect to buy. Has your new purchase had these repairs done? Will they need to be done? Peace off mind does have a value, but only you know how peaceful you will feel after spending the money. |

My best experiences have been BMW of Idaho falls, ID and Exclusively Bimmers in Mount Pleasant,SC. Rick Hendrick BMW in Charleston,SC has done excellent repairs, but their labor rate($115/hr) will set you back bigtime - The BMW dealer in Denver had people going the extra mile to try to help me fix a broken window, only to find out it was the regulator (my bad, it sounded like crunching glass and I was enroute to ID from just picking it up a few days before in NYC) Unfortunately, there are more horror stories than favorable dealings when it comes to BMW dealers or repair places - Maybe we ought to make our own list of good dealers and independents to share with one another - given all my travels (presently in Medford,OR), I know I'd like to know where the nearest good repair place may be. |
This is to supersteve... I actually had an 04 vette and never had an issue with it at all. Yes, it would be a second car, it's not a car you drive around every day but I love getting in that car having the top down and jumping on the expressway and get it up and going.. Love that feeling. However, I will probably get the M5 if I get another car.. the one thing about the vette was the fishtailing.. the m5 doesn't do that..To everyone else as usual thanks for all your help. I think I will be keeping it and just getting it fixed up because I do love it, just hate the repair bills from the dealer. But who does right??

I wasn't bashing Vette's. Since I was a kid I have wanted a White stingray. Problem is, with these and most other desirable cars, the mechanics that work on them and the parts for them are very expensive. Going by the questions you have asked, I take it you don't do your own work. Mechanical things eventually break and that is the justification for my comment. Also, it's only a matter of time before you'll be having body work done on your Vette if your "fishtailing" all over the place. Then you'll realy see how expensive a Vette can be. |
No, I understand what you mean. I never had any problems with my vette other than when someone hit it and that was expensive but covered by insurance, thank goodness..I only fishtailed when I would be racing (I know.. silly) it would fishtail because, I'm assuming, it was rear wheel drive with alot of power. That's why I was thinking about a M5 instead. I just love the way the new vettes look and drive. I wish I knew how to do mechanical work, it would save me so much money, but I don't know any girls that do any mechanical work on cars. I would be open to learning though, too bad there isn't classes to learn how to work on bmws. I would be there in a second

In Beaverton, OR I have used Autohaus Bayervn or something like that and they are awesome + no sales tax. Gotta love that. Then in the Seattle area there is Strictly BMW. I have a 01 3.0i X5 with 216,000 miles and no signs of tranny fatigue. I drive it as hard as I can every day and there usually isn't one day that we don't see 100+mph.

wallyX5 - thanks for the info - I get to both areas - just was up in Portland last week (Albany-Portland-Medford) - not too much cell phone coverage once you get out of town - I kept the speed down and averaged over 20mpg - though I did have a State trooper radar "paint" me as I passed traffic on US97 doing 90+ - either he noticed I began coasting down to 60 after getting past traffic and gave me a pass or he figured if I was speeding, the next 2 troopers following him a few miles back, would get me (but I was down to 60 by then)

Thats the beauty of Oregon, we don't really fund the state trooper department, so sometime I can go from Portland to Medford without seeing an officer. Autohaus Bayern number is 503-641-4525 or 641-6736. They are my go to guys when I can't figure it out. What do you do that brings you out here?
