Help: vent hole question in new battery

Finally time to replace my 2002 battery.

Got a great deal on a BMW OEM one at a local dealer but noticed it was from EXIDE not DOUGLAS which it replaces (I looked up the part num on realoem.com) They both fit the 2002 X5.

Does anyone know if the vent hole on the EXIDE OEM battery is ready to go or needs to be punched out for venting? When I look inside the hole, it looks sealed. Thanks!

Discovered the vent plug is all set to just plug in!

The replacement was very straight forward..

The best advice I saw on one of the posts was to turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right to reset the abs, etc lights which were on after the replacement. The only thing to reset was the time and date. Very cool.

The dealer wanted to charge me $380!!!

Planning to drop off my old battery at the dealer tomorrow.

Just FYI, I think Douglas sold off its battery division and maybe that is the reason for the OEM switch to Exide.

I bought a new battery about a month ago and didn't have any issues with warning lights even though my battery was out for about half and hour. :dunno:

In retrospect, I should of done this replacement sooner instead of waiting until it died.

Very impressive the original battery lasted almost 7 years, 104K miles..
