bunch of problems / one question
Ok here goes. I just realised I have a bad wheel bearing, gonna do both.(front) Front passenger window reg just went :dunno: Cam position sensor went and I changed both of them myself. I have one question though, I have a hard time starting the X once in a while. Seems very radom. I was thinking fuel pump or filter so I will do the filter first, but any other ideas? Better description of what is happening; I turn the key and it cranks as long as I hold it. Stop and turn the key again and it fires right up.
Oh, and my nav screen popped, started to smoke even. Radio still works, just the screen cooked. Must have been a resistor in there. Bidding on a few on ebat right now. |
Before you replace the fuel pump or filter, try replacing the fuel shut off relay first. My dad's Honda Accord was doing the exact same thing as you've described. Our mechanic knew exactly what it was and replaced the relay and problem solved. He told us that fuel pumps rarely goes bad, where he can only remembered replacing about 15 or so fuel pumps in the last 20 years.

Check to see if the long crank only seems to happen when the truck sits overnight, in which case it might be bleed down of the residual fuel pressure. If you have access to a fuel pressure gauge, hook it up overnight and check it in the morning. If it happens to be bleed down, it could either be the one way valve in the fuel pump, or the injectors... which washes out the oil from the cylinder rings causing low compression at first start.
This is just one of the possible causes, but one people tend to forget about. If it is the fuel pump bleeding down, turning the key on for a few seconds a couple times before starting it to prime the system would probably help. If its an injector bleeding down, it will usually give you a misfire fault stored for the affected cylinder. But like I said, this is just one of the possible causes that could be looked at. Happy hunting! |
Hmmm funny you said wait for a bit. I thought of that too and it does seem to start when i turn the key and wait. I hope it is the fuel pump then and not the injectors.

Most likely, it causes more distinct problems with injector leak-down. It's usually the valve in the fuel pump that leaks down.
