MID replacement

I went to pull out the MID unit in my 01 X5 and the lock you use the torx to twist is broken off. It looks like the previous owner attempted to open the unit and torqued the metal till it sheared. How can I get the MID out now?

Drill though the shaft of the broken head. If you don't have a steady hand or a bracing system for the drill, prepare to do a LOT of damage.

I would suggest going to the hardware store of your choice and get an e z-out (trade name) but like you were warned before me "there could be damage in your near future" They are kinda dicey to work with ,but Im curious Why you pulling ur mid ? At the risk of appearing stupid I can only assume it's dead..... and we all know what happens when we assume :)

I am trying to remove it because i lost all FM reception but still have AM so I am thinking it my be a loose connection in the back of the unit

The actual radio is in the trunk area. The MID is mostly just a remote control.

what could be causing the FM problems?

DKL is right, the actual reciever is in the rear. The AM and FM are seperate antenna's so you may want to check the coax connections first. I checked the wiring diagrams are at the top of the page at Online WDS, looks like the AM antenna is in the rear spoiler and the FM is in the rear window. Good luck
