Drivers door dose not know its open…

Hi everyone,

This will be my first post on the forums but I have been reading up for over a year and have been able to replace a window regulator and update my navigation thanks to all of the great contributions.

My problem is somewhat simple. Whenever I open my drivers door the car dose not notice. The first sings of trouble was the inability to arm the car when locking. I thought there was something wrong with the key or alarm but after lots of forum searching I did not see anything that fit my issue.

Last night it all pulled together when I was checking my mail at night and left the car running, I opened the door and no lights came on in the car.

Iv searched the online WDS but don’t really know what part I need to inspect or replace in the door to solve this.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Steve

Well, the door lock and all is built into the latch assembly. Does the door lock/unlock with the remote properly?

The door locks unlocks opens all without any issues. It’s just that when it is open the car “thinks” it’s still shut.

There must be some sort of sensor in the door that lets it know when it’s open or closed.

Also when I open it the BMW logo is not displayed on the nav, my steering wheel is not repositioned, and the inside lights do not come on.

You have to check central-locking drive. check M12 in WDS/component section.

I found this but I cannot load the pictures from the WDS..

Electrical components

Switches

The switches are designed as contactless switches with Hall-effect elements. All switches feature a common ground (terminal 31) connection.
  • Door contact
The position of the rotary latch detected by a switch in order to determine the door position (open or closed).
Is this "door contact" in this list on real OEM?

The door contact is internal in the latch, which is #1 on the list. I actually close the latch when working in the door to turn off the interior lights and door chime. (like when I'm replacing a regulator, etc.)

Thanks for the confirmation on the door part. The funny thing is it has just started working? I don’t know if it was the silicone spray I shot in there a week or so finally did something or I just got car soft 6.5 and cleared all of my error codes. No idea but it has been working for the past two days, lets hope it stays that way!
