Help a technologically challenged X5 owner - ipod

Hello all - please help - I have done all the reading and video watching on the websites about this topic but need a laymans explaination and discription - I have an ipod Nano. I have a 2004 X5 4.4. It has the Business class single CD player - no nav. I need to link the two (CD/ipod)together with a system better than the FM transmitter thing. Can someone please explain to me the whole "DICE" thing or other systems available? Installation is not an issue, but what exactly I need is. I would like a permanent ipod dock with no cables running all over. I have researched it, believe me, but it has just confused me. Technological overload. (pretend you're explaining this to a semi-retarded elderly blind three legged dog)
Thanks - John

The Dice Silverline is a great solution. There is an electronics section on the board. I purchased mine from Tom at EAS and they have been great to work with.

Check with a stereo shop to see if they can run an auxiliary connection and connect the iPod to that. Check out the posts about aux cable stuff.

This is not as slick as the Dice system, but it is cheaper and works far better than the horrid and dangerous fm systems.

Either way, you will get much better sound.

Of course, you could search Crutchfield for a super-duper replacement head unit with nav, iPod controls, etc, etc. and have a far better system than OEM. This would require professional installation and I would suggest using only a very high level shop with experience with the X system.

I am going to try to post another hook-up alternative today, one that has worked well for me, so look for that.

what is the detached message?

my ipod worked fine and now recently i cant seem to play music any longer

also the DICE logo appear on the ipod as usual, so the connection is fine. just i cant select and play music somehow.

got the Navigation unit for 2002, 4.4i X5

Yeah, I'd like to say "been there...", but am actually in your same boat with my DICE install almost since day one of the install - hear rumours that may require a battery disconnect for 1/4hr, that MAY reset the DICE - That's due 9/9 when I get an "M" steering wheel installed - If not, it's back to BSW to let them figure it out acouple weeks later when I get back east

One thing I noticed is the DICE plug does not lock into the iPod like the Apple plugs, it just slips in'n'out
