Passenger Side Seat Sensor
 

I got a seat sensor today for my passenger side. When I simply disconnected the old mat and connected the new one (not setup under the actual seat cover) I was still having the same problem where the airbag light remained on.

I reset the codes and the light on the dash does one flash then stays on. The code that the local mechanic had was the sensor was out.


Any suggestions? I am going to checkout the box that the sensor connects to later and see if theres any power coming from it with my voltage regulator.

after reading another site, looks like my peake scan tool will not reset the airbag sensor light. Now I'm looking at a trip to the mechanic.

Can someone confirm this?

Unfortunately you need the dealers diagnostic software to "enable" the seat mat sensor. After you've changed it, just tell them you replaced it yourself and simply need it enabled and the faults cleared. They should do it for 1 hours labor charge. If you know any BMW independent shop that has the BMW GT1 diagnostic tester, they could do it as well.

So chances are the local indy mechanic can't do it?

Means a trip to the BMW dealer which is a long ways away!

Unfortunately the only test equipment that can "enable" the sensor is the ones made by BMW wit full function with ALL control modules. Some of the better indy's have upped and bought the BMW tester, so it might be worth calling the ones around you and asking if they have the GT1 tester or the older DIS + tester, in which case they could do it. But you might have to make that trek to the dealer...

Alrighty. I gotta go over anyway because my suspension lights on and my indy mechanic doesn't have the computer stuff to read suspension codes.

I am hoping it is the ball joints on the rear suspension thats causing that light to come on but I am told its likely not.

The ball joints would not cause the light... likely either a sensor or relay problem, or possibly an air leak somewhere in the system.

Thinking sensor because its been on for a while and all wheels are maintaining the same height.

I'll paste the results when I go home (in 5 minutes).

Hopefully something simple, it's often just a simple relay...
