Upgraded tranny software...much better now!
 

I reached the 15K service, and I took the opportunity to tell my dealer to update the tranny service to the latest one, because of the dreaded slow acceleration problem from a stop on 1st problem...

well, I don't remember what version is currently in the car, but is sure drives much better!! no more hesitation, no more pulling ankers....nice and smooth, plenty of punch :thumbup:

Haven't heard of this... is this a new update, or has this been around a while? (I never got a 'slow acceleration' sensation in my '05)

It was an issue with the '04s...on certain occassions, there was a hestitation when you hit the gas....This issue has been posted on bimmerfest and roadfly.

the new tranny SW fixed all that.....I don't know if it affects your car since you have an '05

It affects some X5 vehicles in the 10/03-4/05 production ranges (4.4 and 4.8) It also takes care of the harsh 2-1 downshift when decelerating to a stop.

Any way to check if your X needs the update?

My suggestion is that if it's not broken, don't try to fix it. Why take the chance for them to screw things up? If you're happy with the way your transmission works...then just leave it alone.

My '04 3.0i had the same hesitation problem as everyone had described it on every single board. Basically, when you step on the throttle for the first 1/2 inch or so of the throttle position, the car does nothing for about a second...then bang...it jerks into gear just as if someone had hit you from behind. Another somewhat related problem is the transmission is undecisive when coasting to a stop...that is, it is slow in reacting to down shifting. For example, you're coasting to a stop, but without actually coming to a complete stop...so naturally, your foot is off the throttle. The problem is that when you try to reapply throttle, nothing happens for about a second before the transmission decides to get into gear and jerks forward.

According to my dealer, BMW knows about the problem...but they haven't released any official fix. But a few months ago, I'd mentioned it to my dealer again, but they gave me the same story...but somehow the problem "magically" went away after that visit :dunno:

You have to love those dealer ships who don't tel you jack sh#% about what they did to your car.

My 05/05 build 4.4i likes to play bucking bronco when it's cold - don't think it likes to be babied ;) Anyway in sport mode I get the aggressive 2-1 down shift. Figured it was normal is it not? Shifting to economy changes the algorithims completely - smooth as silk.

:wow: Yeah, mine def. doesn't do that!

anyone know if this happeneds to the 01 4.4 i think mine is doing it..
