Oil Type
 

Anyone know what type of oil i should use for my 4.4 ...:dunno: is mobile 1 good enough or should i buy the one they sell at autohaus, Quartz full synthetic.. or how about castrol .

Mobil1 5W-30

I actually had to look up this info, in my Owner's Manual, for my E70 this weekend. Oil was at minimum level. It was very difficult to find the exact oil that BMW specified at my nearest Napa Parts store. But I guess some of you know EXACTLY what oil BMW specifies... :dunno:

Congratulations. By looking up the info you have reached the mountain top.
It's a wonderful example that others need to follow. You would be surprised at
how many people refuse to take the time to open that manual or even look at the main page of this site.

I found at least in my case that the dealer can be very cooperative when it comes to answering questions also. A 5 minute call works wonders. :rofl:

5W-30 Castrol Syntec. I believe the 4.4 takes just over 8 quarts. You can pick up the 5 quart containers at Wal-Mart in the low $20 range. Total for 10 quarts and a canister filter = $60. If you go to Jiffy Lube or BMW you pay around $100. The easiest vehicle I have ever changed.

We are all getting ready for the dreaded "OIL THREAD". No need to get your panties in a wad.

Oil is like bottled water. The bottles of water all do the same thing, keep you hydrated. Some have flavors, some are from springs, some are just filtered city water. Some people have a favorite one they swear by and all the others are not fit to use for flushing a toilet.

My point being, any synthetic oil in the proper weight range will do no harm to your engine. In fact any of the top brands of non-synthetic oils in the correct weight range will do no harm either.

As for topping off the oil level. It really doesn't matter what you use as long as it is in the correct weight range.

The two most important aspects of oil are, change at the specified intervals, and keep enough of it in the engine.

Thank you very much gentlemen , I did read the owners manual and the first page of this heare site :bustingup , My thinking was towards the the lines of this here in the manual That states " Use oils with the ( API SH )
specifications or higher " , but you guys answered that for me thanks again I gess that was a Question that was not thought out First .................
