Opinions Wanted

So here is what I'm thinking about, and your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I currently have the 4:3 Nav in my X. It has the original nav disc that was issued when the car, so needless to say it is very out of date.

I also have a portable GPS, Tom Tom to be exact. I really don't want to shell out over $100 for a new disc.

I have a very good pioneer head unit that I had in my E46 sedan, the sound quality out of this unit is amazing. Now onto my question. I'm thinking about swapping out the Nav unit for my other radio.

The plusses that I get out of the swap, direct connection for my sirius and iPod with out spending $150 on the DICE which I had in my E46 and I honestly wasn't that impressed with the unit it self.

So what do you think. Any one have questions of the single DIN adapter plate in a double DIN dash?

:dunno: No one has an opinion?

Ok well, I'll just ask a question instead. Will taking out the nav unit mess anything up with the audio system or on board computer?

I would'nt swap out a factory installed navi system for a radio.

I wouldn't swap it out unless you went with another double din unit. Either factory 16x9 NAV or something like an AVIC unit. To me, the size of the center dash area looks odd when it has anything smaller there, even the stock non nav radio seems a bit out of place IMHO and a non OEM headunit might really cheapen the OEM look.

Now as far as your nav disc, I'm SURE you can find it for less than $100... maybe a used disc online would be an option. I've also read about people downloading and making ISO images onto cd or dvd's and using them in factyory nav units. I don't know much about it but that route, if it works wouldn't cost more than a few dollars ;)

Just realized that, should be pictures, not questions.

But thanks for your input guys.

I wouldn't do it either, the spacing on the dash is weird so you can always tell something is missing when you take out the factory unit
