I bought my 4.8is from Carmax last month for about the same price, and added the 4yr extended warranty for only $1500.

But do you have to take it to Carmax for repairs ? I'm not sure I would trust their expertise on BMWs much less a 4.8is.

Only in the first 30 days (their default warranty on all their cars) then after than you can take it to any ASE certified shop including your favorite BMW dealership for any work. Their warranty also covers more things than the BMW warranties does, like radio and nav problems. There is a $75 deductible for each visit, so you would want to get as many things taken care of as you could each time it needs to go in for work.

I haven't used mine yet, but I will be taking it in next week to get a few things checked out.
