I used the Dex VI from the GM dealer on my last fill. I went through 3 different transmission fluids over a span of 40K miles. First it was Valvoline Max Life ATF, then Valvoline Dex VI, and now GM Dex VI. I honestly cant say I felt any difference between the 3, but I spent just under 6 bucks a bottle for any of the transmission fluids I used. For out transmissions, I dont see the need for mobil 1 when Dex VI is what the dealer suggests and it is already a synthetic fluid. |

Good advice, But I am curious how the walmart would work. Why don't you try it for your next change and get back to us with a report.:nanana:
Just Kidding, I'm going to bring this up at BITOG, see waht the responses are. Well research on BITOG yielded a buyer-beware- cation. look here: lawsuit by API against Warren and others for faking the API logo and selling inferior oil under that logo, how sad, :( API Sues Motor Oil Marketers Over Trademarks Usage ... |
I'm not one to throw money away, but I would go with a quality brand of Dex VI such as Mobil 1. I've used M1 oil in my X5 for 90K+ and that M54 is in terrific shape.
The consequences of tranny problems with brand X ATF would far outweigh the cost differential, IMHO. |

Have you tried M1 atf in your e53 yet? |
What is the difference between the mobil dexron VI atf and the mobil 1 synthetic Atf? Besides the price tag of course ; ) can either of these be used for BMW 83220024359?

The bmw tech at my dealership says all dex vi is the same. They use whatever dex vi is available cheapest in drum size for the shop use. So whatever dex vi appeals to you will work. Personally I'm not ready for the store brand but... why not.

Oh yeah. The service Mr said it and I thought I was hearing wrong. So I asked him to repeat what he said. Direct quote from him "we just use dex vi... dex vi is dex vi". I have used both M 1 and wolf's head synthetic with no problems in 175000 miles. I change every 35000 miles. Trans works like brand new. I change 3 time (at once) running the warm Trans 15 minutes shifting through all the gear. While up on jack stands. Drain and repeat 3 times approx 15 qts. Total
I also change the filter every other time. |
