100k ATF change recommened in my manual -- yes or no?
Hi, my owner's manual shows that the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) should be changed every 100k miles. It's on the asme page as the coolant flush and brake bleed intervals.
My dealers tells me no. My local independent shop tells me no. Are they calling the manufacturer/designer or our cars, good 'ol BMW, a liar? :-) Who's right? |
check this thread out. It has been discussed many times with no difinitive answer.

My assumption is that neither shops wanted to take on the liability at that high milage. I guessed the failure rate for the X5 tranny is high enough that not too many shops (dealers included) want to tackle the fluid change.
