Alarm randomly going off!
I have a 2004 X5 3.0i that I bought in May. This is my first posting. This site rocks.....I've upgraded my NAV software with the great instructions provided. My car alarm has been going off randomly. The strange part is this only seems to happen when it's raining. It's doesn't take a massive downpour for this to occur and of course it only seems to happen after midnight. I've searched the forum and I don't believe it's the hood switch which seems to be the most popular reason for this type of problem. Anyone else come across this issue? Any suggestions?

could be the battery about to go dead. might want to have it tested.

My money is on the hood switch. To test this out, simply disconnect the hood switch and see if the false alarms cease. If they do then problem solved. If they don't then you know to look elsewhere.

:iagree: The hood switch is the usual culprit. But if that isn't it, the GT1 tester at the dealer tells you the alarm trigger counter. That shows you exactly what sensors set off the alarm and how many times each.

Same thing happened to my 2004 X5 3.0i, It was the sensors inside the vehicle that were faulty they were sensing things that didn't exist. They replaced my interior sensors and it never happened again

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! For the sake of neighbor relations I'll soon get this issue resolved.

I had this issue as well for a long time on my 3.0. Sounds like it was a little different than your issue, but mine was after I would lock the car and walk away it would randomly go off a couple dozen times, sometimes it was when I would unlock it too (and who knows when else that I didn't hear it!). The dealer hooked it up to the GT1 and found it was going off from all sorts of sources, ended up that replacing the ignition starter switch was what finally stopped it from wreaking havoc on my neighborhood!

I think your name says it all though... NocturnalX5, it may just be mad you're trying to sleep at night! quit your day job and work at night and the problem might resolv itself!

Yep. Same thing is happenning to my X5. My neighbor is just about to kill me. I'm taking it in to the dealer tomorrow. It's just randomly goes off after locking the car. I notice that it does happened more often when it's windy outside. Never heard of a GT1 tester before. I'll tell the dealer right away to hook it up to the GT1 tester. Most likely a fault sensor somewhere. Hopefully it won't be too expensive to repair.
