Where is my cd player located?

I just received my '06 X5 4.4 w/ navi and no 6 cd changer. However, in the specs it says I have a single CD player.
My problem is, I DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHERE I FIND THIS SINGLE CD PLAYER I only see the DVD box that is for navi at the rear of the car. N it is the one with only one LED.

Someone please direct me to the right direction

if u have navigation then it is behind the screen. have to hit eject button and screen will slide down.

the DVD box is the navigation computer, if there is no 6 disc changer below that, it will either be behind the screen, or you don't have one. Generally, there is a tape deck behind the screen, however some models have single CD's.

I only mean this in a most polite way :D :rtfm:

Did you miss the memo? The standard procedure is to FIRST post the question on the forum THEN read the manual.

I'd try that little eject button hiding in the top right corner of the nav, and see if you are one of the few lucky enough to be blessed with the cd/nav. Most are stuck with a tape deck, which is only useful for playing an ipod through cassette adapter. Or if you have young kids... hiding cool things like raisin boxes!

And if not, you should be pre-wired for cd changer anyways... just add it.

elyk 10-02-2008 10:32 PM

thanks for all the replies, and I have gone through the manual

behind the NAV was only the tape deck.

how is it that my car is spec'ed with a single cd player but i have none? is this common?

The most amazing thing to me is that in freakin 2006 BMW has not yet realized that cassette tapes are completely obsolete! They might as well put in the good 'ol 8-track player in the dash and a phonograph in the back! Sure they can revolutionize engine management with variable valve lift and quad cam timing control, add x-drive etc... but they have a tape deck! Mind you a tape deck run on a highly advanced fiber optic bus communication system, but a tape deck none the less.

And if the X was spec'ed with a cd player but doesn't have one... bring it to where you just bought it and tell them you bought it under the impression it had a player, and ask if they are willing to help you out... can't hurt. Just be nice about it, people are more willing to help.;)

tell me about it, its like using VHS now a days. i'll try working with the dealer, or i'll just get a cd changer myself.
Anyone know roughly how much? and if dealer actication is needed?
thanks for all the replies

I think if you get it from the dealer it is $595 (PN: 65 12 6 983 336). You can install it yourself and get one off ebay or a forum though and save a bundle, it is pretty easy to install, especially with the instructions on the front page.

youry 10-03-2008 08:45 AM

did you look in the trunk to see if there is a cd changer?

yup, only the MK3 was found

Bimmer360 10-03-2008 02:00 PM

I dont think X5 16:9 and 4:3 screens comes with CD player slot, they are all tape.

that's normal. Some friends of mine realized later on that previous owners have removed the cd changer and therefore, they dont have CD player.

Skip the cd player and get a Dice or Intravee II... (if you have an iPod).

X5 Meister 04-14-2010 01:15 AM

Did any X5 actually come with CD / Nav? If so, do you have a part number?

I revived this thread since I'm curious if a CD / Nav unit from say a E46 will physically fit the space.

I think since then I realized the E53's never came with CD player NAV screen... And if I remember right the issue was clearance for the back of the unit due to air ducts/HVAC box etc. But the E46 one should work electronically being an I-bus unit, but not sure it would physically fit.

X5 Meister 04-14-2010 03:00 AM

Interesting. I now know how to adjust the screen so that the on-axis display is correct even if the unit isn't for that car. Just clearance is the issue now.?!

I believe so. But I don't have personal experience with attempting swapping either... so if you have access to one to try it may be worth it. :dunno:

X5 Meister 04-14-2010 02:02 PM

Might do just that. Which cars had the same On Board Monitor but with CD? or better question, what was the last car that had that setup since it would be the most up to date?

Not sure off hand, but playing around on realoem.com could produce results.

ZeroChief

Does anyone make a A-B type of switch that you can have a Dice /ipod and a CD player and you can switch back and forth between the two?

Thank you
Jim

I cant find my CD player either. I have read the manual and still no luck. I have an 03 3.0i that came with the original price sticker in it and it plainly says on there that the care has a cd player. I am starting to think I am crazy because I have looked in the trunk, in the glove compartment, under the seats and still nothing. Thank goodness I have that tape player, though. I was so worried that I would not be able to play all of my cassingles from the "90's
