$$$$$ 95k SERVICE? $$$$$
 

I just took the SAV to get an oil change, change the 3rd brake light and reprogram the tranny b/c it shifts hard from 2nd gear to 1st and my service manager informed me that I will need the following....

95K Car Service
Changing All Belts
Check Brakes ( that were changed 5K miles ago)
Tune-up - Change plugs, wires and so on
The list kept going and going....

Do I need to do all this?

I know some ppl have over 95K and what have you guys done?

hmmmmmm? Since I am at 88K.....I also would also like some info here!! I bet much of this could be DIY ....as my 60k......was all DIY.......every last bit of it......of course with a mechanic friend of mine.

Don't forget you gotta do the water pump and thermostat too. Those items will break on you for sure. Usually around or near 100k miles.

You didn't detail "what's been done" over your car's life, so I'm just
taking a stab:
-The Stlr is trying to sell you a major "tune up", but I don't know of
a "95K mile" service; maybe he is referring to Inspection III?
-I realize you are in NYC and there is not a good BMW Indie on every
block, but I would hunt around for a non-dlr for any serious work.
-The "check brakes" is bs, esp with 5K miles on new brakes...
-Belts: can't hurt, but when is the last time you had the oem
belt changed?
-Plugs and plug wires are a maybe; they will be due in near future,
if you have orig. plugs.
-If you are on the orig water pump/hoses, a definite rec'd.
-If it was my car, I would have the brake fluid changed.

Not sure of your "list that goes on and on", and I'm not trying
to toss your dough. The belts, water pump and brake fluid I would
not avoid...the plugs are a maybe.

I would hunt up a good Indie in NY/NJ and it will probably save you
at least a third and offer better service, imo.

I agree with the above def look for a indy shop. As far as reprogramming the transmission, do you guys think that is a good idea? If it has been fine for this long?

+1 on water pump and t-stat. try changing the tranny fluid first. just did mine and it did wonders! 78k on mine.

So how much did they want to charge you???

The Belts have never been changed.....

Original Plugs, Water Pump, & Hoses.....

I have not had to do much @ all with my X except Change out the 3rd brake light, the left brake assembly, tires, brakes, rotors, sensors, weather stripping, A/C panel & thats pretty much it in the past 5 years....

Seems like alot but it really isnt.....Im @ 95K and running like the day I drove it off the lot....

I will Def. look into finding a indie in the NY/NJ area....

Chaning brake and trany fluid really makes that much of a difference?

Changing the tranny fluid did for me. It shifts smoother, quicker and (hard to explain) I feel more pull with it??. It also seems like my mileage has improved a bit, too early to tell right now, just had it done on Tuesday. My water pump and T-stat will be next.
I put NKG's in and changed the air & fuel filter last week and like what I'm seeing so far.

Well, with that info, I'd rec'd belts, water pump, related hoses: it's
only a matter of time until one of those leaves you on the side of the
road.

Plugs are a maybe, but they won't last forever...your call.

Brake fluid should be changed every 2-3 years, regardless of mileage:
it absorbs water and breaks down due to heat like an old man.

Tranny fluid is a real toss up, based on what I've read here.
