Does anyone know if you mod your X5 in any ways does it void the fact. warranty ?????

if you do intake mod. it will void your air/fuel warranty.
after market radio/Alarm etc.. will void your electrical warranty

how about mods to the exterior ?? spoiler, RB, etc.......

No effect at all.

Technically, modifications don't void your warranty. As Vig points out, US legislation prohibits manufacturers from voiding warranties or requiring only factory parts be used.

That said, if you modify the fuel system (or intake system) then you should expect that future problems in that system will be assumed by the dealer to be due to your modification (guilty until proven innocent). It may not seem fair to you, but it is often true that problems are due to modifications more so than to defective OEM components. Also, problems caused directly by your modification are obviously your responsibility. That extends to things like wide tires wearing suspension components faster, or aftermarket phones making the battery go flat.

The final point is that different dealers have different tolerances for your modifications. Some will not try and pin it on you, if the system impacted isn't one that you have modified. Others will be more of a pain. Your best defence is a good relationship with your dealer service advisor.

I worked on an E46 330i coupe that had lean mixture faults, and I spent some time trying to figure this thing out. It was only after we swaped the complete exhaust from the headers back with a lease return that we confirmed the problem was caused by the full exhaust kit he had (which sounded great I might add) We didn't charge the guy for the diagnosis time, the dealer ate that one. But we couldn't fix it as it was the aftermarket parts causing the problem. In general we only don't cover something under warranty if it was/is a DIRECT effect of the aftermarket parts installed. That being said I have even been able to replace logic 7 amps in E65 7 series that had an aftermarket amp running some subs in the trunk tied in to it... simply because the dead channel in the amp was NOT the channel tied into by the aftermarket stuff. (that one took a call to the FSR, but it was a good customer that we wanted to take care of) thus proving that a good relationship with the dealer alwasy helps. We cringe when we see the pain in the ass customers come in that complain about anything when we bend over backwards to go above and beyond for them... then nobody wants to work on their shit.
