That's the one good thing about ESP in the Benz's, if you get past 15 degrees in a non-AMG and around 25 in an AMG or a little more in a PP AMG it re-engages because you can't really recover once you get past a certain point, the DSC just stays off (good for a track but not everyday play)

The reason he did a hair better with the 03 than your 4.8 is he didn't have x-drive, just straight 38/62 torque split. You had the x-drive transfer power to catch it and compensate.

GUYSSSS !!!! NEVER DISCONNECT THE X-DRIVE .....

NEVEEEEEEEERRR !!! MY X5 JUST GOT FUCKED TODAY :(((((

The X-drivw computer must be somewhat connected to the radiator fans ... as i was drifting today (with x-drive disconnected) ... i sudently heard a huge pop, more like a small explosion, and smoke started coming out of the engine ... ===== >> engine overheat and because the computer was disconnected, it didint display the message "check water temp!" ... so the water galon of the radiator exploded :( my x5 is parked out there on the streets waiting for tomorow ... i just hope the engine is safe or i'll fuck myself ...

Come on, make fun and laugh at me ... i know i deserve it :((

I don't think that is from the computer being disconnected, sounds to me like the coolant expansion tank or radiator end tank blew on you. If it did not have any high temperatures before then the plastic gave out. Possibly the cooling system had some excess pressure somehow...? But if it was running hot or low on coolant it would/should have given you a warning.

Are you guessing that the fans weren't coming on or did you confirm this?

beemer156 11-07-2008 08:50 PM

Hey bro, well no i am guessing that its from the fans ...

But i did confirm that the coolant expansion tank or radiator end tank blew on me (don't know wich is wich) ... but when i fill the tank again, the liquid is leaking from the bottom of the x5 ...

Guys, is this an easy thing to fix ???? and do you know how much time needed to fix ? i cant live without my x :(
Thanks

Do you have the 3.0i or one of the V8's? Either way try to see where the water is leaking from with a flashlight... most common is the expansion tank, which is easy to replace. If it is the radiator it can still be a diy job if you are dcent with mechanics and have the proper tools, otherwise a trip to the repair shop.

LOL my X5 overheated on me too. The radiator was leaking and I fixed it and patched it up a bunch of times but this time it just overheated on me.

I was used to the "Check Coolant Level" message in the cluster, but because my cluster's fried and I get half letters and such I didn't recognize a new message after I fixed it. It read something like "Check C...F Le..e..", I didn't bother with it til today when I had to ditch my X5 and pick it up tomorrow to take it to a garage.

Anyone can make out what it says?

Well, i bought my bmw 3.0i 2005 x5 from dealer 3 years ago and NEVER had a single problem with it ... NOTHING ! (exept for 2 physical accidents, but thats just me) nyway thats why i was shocked and terified today when that tank exploded ... so, i got 5 years insurance so i get to fix the tank at the dealer for free ... no need for DIY :D

Well there ya go!

But I can rag you on how you freaked out thinking the x-drive control module would cause the cooling system to blow up like that... but take it easy on the X with all that "spirited" driving... you don't want to cause excessive wear to the clutches in the transfer case!
