MKIV Sat Nav busted Help Please..

Folks

My 4.4 was rear ended while I was stionary on the motorway by a fully loaded 40 ton truck. As part of the £12.500 insurance repair bill BMW charged £1800 for a new MKIV unit and antenna. They did not however replace the screen as they claimed that this was not damaged. NB. They replaced the instrument binicale which was clearly damaged.

Now the screen has a message saying "screen switched off due to high temperature". The screen then starts opening and closing every few seconds and can only be stopped when I turn off the ignition. The BMW dealer has told the Insurance that this is not related to my accident and that I need a new screen. I think that for £1800 I should have got a new screen and that this should have been replaced as part of the original accident damage.

How much should a new MKIV cost with the screen and antenna.

Have I got a claim that they should have replaced the "satnav system" and not individual components.

The truck driver and his insurers admitted full liability.

My car had the following replaced.

Rear bumper
Upper & lower tail gate.
Both exhausts (crushed)
Rear lights
Sat Nav (DVD) unit
TV radio modules
Sat Nav Antenna
Battery cut out cable
Drivers side seat (back twisted)
Drivers side seat belt mountings
Instrument cluster
knee panel under dashboard
Exhaust heat shields (all broken)

Apologies for the long mail. But this sucks and feels like the insurer and BMW trying to get out of re-opening their claim and trying to claim that the sceen and the NAV are not related.

Oh. Nearly forgot. I also had my underpants replaced (at my expense)

Thanks

Bruce

The MKIV Nav unit and the screen are two completely separate pieces of equipment. A problem with your Nav unit should not impact your screen and vica-versa. In this case, the burden of proof would be on you to show how the rear-impact physically or electronically damaged the screen (through about 30 feet of wired cable). Sorry...:(
