Drivers door won't open

Just got up this morning with the car covered in frost, i managed to open the door then it wouldn't shut.

So i held the door closed and locked it with the remote, and now it won't open from either the inside or the outside when unlocked with the remote and key.

Any advise?

You have to open the door with the same force used to close it...

First unlock the door, if it will not unlock with the remote then hold the handle in the open position while turning the key lock. After the door is unlock, put the same force on the door you used in closing it and while pushing the door close, pull the handle to open the door.

Hopefully this helps

Ok..this is the start of the dreaded frozen door latch....It will do it all winter long...and even more if you don't take care of it now. When moisture freezes inside the door handle and latch you have this problem as you describe. There is a DIY on this site on how to remedy this. But for me it seemed like a pain in the ass, and looked complicated. I finally couldn't take it any longer and took it to the dealer. $550 and it was fixed. New updated part that won't freeze. It worked.. But thats what you're looking at...

I thought all the BMW's came standard with the auto thaw feature for the door locks.... I know all my prior 3-Series and my 7-series has it. But with it all you do is hold the door handle in the open position for several seconds and it will automatically heat the lock mechanisms. While in Germany I used that feature a few times, but here in Texas, it does not get that cold, so I do not know if the X has that feature yet.
