How to remove airbag?
Hi.
Im trying to remove the wood trim on my sport steering wheel. Ive been fpollowing the guide found here.: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/i...heel-trim.html which has an identical steering wheel.. My problem is that i just dont understand how to remove the airbag..? Ive inserted the screwdrivers through the slots, and i can see the airbag moving around, but i dont know what to do to loosen it. Should i press in, oush forward, up, against me or what.? Any help would be appreciated..:) |
You are moving the right way...
Loook at Photo Nr 3 - see the metal spring (down Red arrow) this is the one that you're trying to press, in order to release the airbag's plastic notch that is holding the airbag in place. It would be easier if you are pressing similarly, at the same time, from BOTH sides... |
With the screwdriver positioned with the flat part horizontal press it inwards (straight in) to push the spring inwards. The airbag should raise up on that side a bit. do the same on the other side, and you should be able to pull it out and unplug the airbag. Just be sure to release the latch on the plug for the airbag, you don't want to break it and have it come unplugged by itself in the future.

Okey.. So ill just press straight in with the screwdrivers....
Thanks for the input.. Ill give it a go tomorrow.. Do i need to push hard.? |
You should feel the spring pressure once you get it lined up right, it will some force, but once it has been pressed in far enough the airbag will jump out a bit then be able to be unplugged.

i have to get an airbag aswell, i dont have a horn currently because the airbag was pressing up against the horn so i currently dont have a horn... :(

plan on taking about 15 minutes or more to do it the first time cause you dont "know" what it looks like inside, even after looking at all the tutorial pics. After the first time you take it out and you can see the way it works the second time will take about 30 seconds to remove it. LOL! first time is always the most frustrating

I bet it is.. Cause im starting to think im retarded or something.. When i insert the screwdriver, horisontally, it pretty fast bumps into something when juggled, moves air airbag.. Im pretty sure this is the spring for the airbag, but not sure if im in the right spot. When i press inwards i can see the airbag move, but even if i press it pretty hard, it doesnt seem to be closed to come loose..? So my question is, is it this first thing it hits that needs to be pushed inwards.? |
Yes, push straight towards the center... but not as a lever, just straight pushing. And a smaller tipped screwdriver does better than a wide one because the wide ones catch the plastic the spring sits in.
