What about the http://www.thehoffmangroup.com/autol...99.95&name=Bmw E53 Remote Start Kit: Factory Keyless Compatible&item=Part+Number:%20RS1050_16565&refid= eBayATW ..?
It seemes it can be used along with the original key, instead of having an extra transmitter for starting the car. As i understood, one would need an extra transmitter for the prestige one.. What about the trasponder.? How do one know if it needs to be installed also.? I have a 2001 3.0l x5 i would like to install it in. I have a original alarm system in it.. |

They more often than not used separate remotes from scanning the posts. On one vehicle, the seat memory no longer functioned. On another vehicle, the power door locks no longer functioned. On the third vehicle, seats and door locks worked, but you had to put your regular key in the ignition when you got in the car, or it stalled when you put it in gear. There seem to be various approaches to maintaining your vehicle security system and immobilizer. Earlier in this thread, a poster who installed a remote starter has disconnected it until the problems get sorted out. Doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement. The conclusion was that yes, they can work, but often they aren't seamless. A good installer makes all the difference, more than the make of the unit. You should find an installer in your town with a good track record on BMWs, and ask them what model they recommend. Just my $0.02 |
With a remote starter wouldn't you keep the x5 idling for a while? I thought the x5 is not supposed to be left at idle for long periods of time.

Some posters may just be looking for a way for the car to start as they walk across the parking lot, or to turn on the air conditioner. |
That's all I would want it for is for the ac while walking to the car... but the one ekvals linked to claims to use the OEM key buttons, in which case you will already be to the car before you are in range to start it.
I am leary of that one though as it claims to be E53 specific but the pdf file install instructions look pretty darn generic and referred to their remote fobr ather than the bmw's key. |
