new[to me]x5

Hi after reading this site for a couple of months i finally bought a 2001 3.0 gold x5 i had her looked over by the local dealer and an indy and had a manageable
list of repairs to haggle over with the seller.Closed the deal and drove off yeah..
an hour or so later i filled the gas tank and headed home what a nice car.........
next morning my new car has a pool of gas under her.grrrrrrrrrrr.I removed the back seat and finaly locate leak at rear pasenger vent fitting on tank . I ordered a new tank and will begin dismantling her .I hope my luck improves ...is the tank a common failure on this car ? I did a search but did not turn up much..
cheers Rondo

First ... :xoutpost:

Second .. guess it was just bad luck. Otherwise, that dealer and indy didn't catch it. :(

Good luck in the future!

thanks for the greets and i dont think they missed catching any thing during the inspections as there was no leak except when the tank is full.

It sounds to me like he bought the car knowing it was in rough shape and needed repairs.

sorry I can't say I've heard of that problem, but if you stick around long enough I'm sure you'll get her up to shape

It would seem to me that if it had a leak the check engine light would be on with a "DMTL major leak detected" fault... you know, the fault you get for fueling up with the engine running...? Otherwise that is a very uncommon problem as I have only seen it once with a BMW in over 4 years at the dealer.
