Brake refurbishment
8 Attachment(s)
Well, after my recent post on my newly acquired X5 4.4i, I finally got the brakes refurbished and boy am I glad I did. As I mentioned, the dealer I bought it from had fitted new pads to old corroded discs and he would not budge on fitting new ones so this is how they started.
Whilst the discs were off I checked the flexi brake hoses and was horrified by the corrosion on a 7 year old car. So I have had them replaced all round with new stainless steel braided hoses, TUV approved with full stainless end fittings. I then cleaned up the hubs to remove all signs of corrosion and mounted the new discs. Whilst the calipers were off, I had them refurbished and powder coated so they would not rust quite as badly, as quickly again and fitted new pads and looms too I then did a full bleed and fluid change with Lockheed DOT 5.1 fluid to complete the refurbishment. Welcome to X5World.
Must be very wet where you live or they use a lot of road salt. I've never seen that much rust on rotors and fittings. Good thing you changed them out. What brand of rotors are those? Why are they all scratched up? The calipers look nice! |
