Audio System Question
I'm going through a series threads and trying to piece together an answer for changes I'm looking to make to my 2002 x5 3.0 (No NAV, Non-DSP).
Here's what I want to do...
I understand that I'd have to replace the Business CD with the 2003 or later radio module. I'm also happy to replace the XM radio unit if I have to (though keeping the existing one is preferable). What else do I need and is all this even possible? Sorry for what may appear to be a noobie type of question. I've got a narrow window to do this modification over the holidays so I want to get my parts list together and order what I need. Thanks. |
I have a buddy with a new f-250 ford. He has all the goodies you want and more; he is able to control from steering wheel with a newish high end pioneer touch screen. I dont know if this a route you want to go since you want to keep the xm you have now, but it will most definitely work (you should be able to use the xm you now, however). They are pretty pricey from what I hear. I dont know if this is what you wanted to hear, but just a lil bit of input.
Things he has with this setup: Sat. Radio Bluetooth CD Navigation DVD (there's a way to disable the system to watch DVD's while driving) ipod Back up camera Its a pretty Badass setup |
Big open question, but I guess the first question back to you is how much do you want to spend? $$$$
If you want to go with OEM equipment, be prepared to shell out a few bucks to replace your Nav computer or just update the software (about +$300) to get updated maps with added POIs. For XM, look at DICE or BSW systems you will find add on modules for the features you desire but can get quite costly.... You can find many post on this site on both systems. Me, I chose to just scrap the BMW system and go with aftermarket Alpine system. Was able to intergrate system with steering wheel controls and system sounds superb, only downfall is I do not get the text displayed on the dash display. But I have DVD, Ipod, NAV, XBox, TV, bluetooth and 4 independently sourced monitors, with vol, track, source and mute all controlled from the steering wheel. |
