Deer Strike Damage...
1 Attachment(s)
... I hit a good size deer on the Interstate a few nights ago. He hit the front corner on the passenger side. I've attached a picture. Lights pushed in, but still fuctional. Fog lamp knocked out. Headlight washers damaged. Quarterr panel damaged, but not pushed into the passenger side door. It drives exactly the same as before the strike, so I believe there is no damage to any of the steering and/or control system. Inspection by State Farm scheduled for tomorrow.
Question: what hidden damage should I be watching for? |
more deer.

Nothing...I had the exact same damage done on mine last year. What you should be worried about is the fact that the front bumper cover is probably on back order from Germany. South Carolina plant stopped making these. I waited 7 and a half weeks until the bumper was finally shipped from Germany. None in the USA. And I have State Farm also. I checked up on the order process all the time and tried myself, it was no joke, the bumper had to come from Germany. I hope you dont have to wait like I did. GL

My wife's X was hit on the drivers side by a truck tire that came over the divider. Parts replaced: the hood, 1/4 panel, bumper, bumper cover, head light washers, headlight assy., fog light, brake cooling duct, shock, lower control arm, steering rod, front tires, oil filter and power steering mount, wheel well liner, left front axle assy. . .and a good cleaning of the two front seats.
Point being, the 2001 X with 145,000 miles drives as well as the 2006 x with only 36,000 miles. The accident happened @ 103,000. There was no damage to any frame member. |
wow Good luck to you and glad it wasn't any more serious

Blktoptrvl, how's UR trip? |
May be a good time to upgrade to a 4.6is front bumper if you wanted to... would only pay the difference + deductible!
But be glad it was only a minor, indirect hit. Could have been MUCH worse! PS, click with caution. This deer hit was gorey... http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/69653 |

I love the look of the white topped mountains. The people here are very friendly. The job is OK so far, I look for it to get better. On the down side, I am in a motel where there is a constant hard smell of ammonia. Could I be in a meth lab? I will be signing for a three month apartment is a nicer part of town - with underground parking for the X5 in a couple days. Hope the job lasts that long - you never know these days. I went to Everett this past weekend to watch them build Boeing; that was very informative and entertaining. On the way back to Bellingham, I stopped in the Tulalip Casino and picked up $50 for my troubles. Saturday, I watched a small troller lay nets in Bellingham bay. As the net was being played out within a few yards of where I was, a sea lion/seal poked his head up to look around and see what was going on - but I misssed the shot. That reminds me, I saw something else - I think a huge bird on a rock, I could not squint hard enough to make it out so I took a photo using telephoto. I have not yet check to see what it was. On Sunday, I decided to roam the area and was surprise to arrive at the Canadian border within 15 minutes. As soon as I get a new set of cable-chains, I plan to go toward the mountains again to get some more shots. I am just now starting to get over "jet-lag." The tumble-weed did no damage to my car. All-in-all, I am having a great time. |
