HID Conversion set
 

Does anyone know a HID conversion set with reasonable price that can be recommended? I am planning to replace my H1 Halogen bulbs for the distance light with Xenons. It's dark in Northern Norway these days:D

This is not recommended as the constant switching between low/high beam will fry the ballast.
But it's your money and your choice. There are many of these units on fleabay.

Aren't the low and high beam separate? If that is the case then the consistency of the low beam shouldn't change assuming one gets a decent kit. There's just a chance that the LBF might pop up. I'm under the impression that people upgrade to HID kits on a lot of the older BMW including the 5 series based on what I have been reading in the other forums.

To the OP, DDM tuning seems to sell decent kits based on what I've read in bimmerforums.com. I'm in the market for one as well but still doing my research.

There are two high beams. If you push back the lever, then you turned on the xenon high- beam lights. If you pull back on the lever then they are just the flashers. So the xenon light doubles as low and high beam.

That would be for the X5's that have bi-xenons. Halogen equipped X5's have only one bulb so it uses the high beam for both flashing and actual high beam.

It is a very simple mod to do, I have factory dip(low beam) zenons fitted to my 02 4.4 and bought an hid conversion from a company in the UK (hids4u) for the main beam , just took the main beam halogens out and fitted the xenon bulbs, ballasts and new bit of wiring.
It all goes together very simply ,full instructions are give and no warning light recognition problems.
