Stolen Key

My house was broken into and my spare set of car keys taken. The BMW here in spain has said I need new locks, two new keys and the keys to be coded, all at a cost of 700 Euros!! Does anybody know if there is another way around this. I thought maybe I could order another key and have them both recoded??? any suggestions. Dont know if there just trying to do me over!! Thanks

Can't really help but try the search tab because i remember reading a post exactly like this.

New keys (and the one you have) will be recoded again, leaving the stolen key un-coded!!!
Still, anybody with a key can open the driver door but they won't be able to start the engine - this is why they suggested changing the locks...
It's your decision

You could by a driver side key hole cover. Then they won't be able to open the x5 from the driver side door

The dealer (if they know what they're doing) can disable the key electronically to where the EWS (immobilizer) won't let that key work anymore.

Thats what we did about two years ago because they tried to brake in and took the barrell out.

But the window is still breakable, and if someone really wants in... they're going to get in.

Yeah, its really anoying, they took my boyfriends spare keys too, so we have two cars to sort out and had to get the house and garage locks changed. Theiving horrible people!!!

I'd call the dealer again and talk to the service manager or shop foreman (to make sure it's someone who knows how) and tell them you had keys stolen, and need to have them turned in the EWS to make them inactive. From that point they need the X5 and all remaining keys and about 1/2 hour on the GT1 tester.
