X5 envy
Just thought I should share this experience from the other day....
I went to the local tire-shop the other day to have my winter wheels installed on the X5. I was standing at the door of the work area, with my back to the reception desk, while I watched the guys rebalance my tires. Into the shop walks a loud heavy fellow with a strong 'Italian accent'. He was driving a newer model Acura MDX - probably not more than 3 yrs old and Silver Gray just like my X5. Everyone heard him complain at the desk that this MDX was handling like 'shit', that he had just been to the Acura dealership to have the alignment checked. While at the dealership he was told that before they do the alignment, he'd have to have his tires balanced first and thus the visit to the tire shop. While continuing his monologue on MDX issues he looks into the shop and sees my X5 there. He stops in mid-sentence and says to the shop-owner: "Wow an X5!... tell you what why don't you just take the keys to my Acura here and just give me that Bimmer instead!" Of course the shop-owner says "We'll you'll have to ask the owner because he's standing right next to you (with a wink)". That sure made my day!! |

We have a similar story when ordering new rear tires for our X5. It cost $536 in total, and the installer goes, "Whew...for $500, I could get 4 new tires and tune up...and for a whole set, $1000, I could pay rent!"
That sure made our day. The price to pay to drive a real car :p: |
My boss (Mr. Jackass) had an MDX and I overheard him talking about buying one with a friend and also trying to sell his, "It's not nearly as luxurious as R's BMW and I don't need to drive that fast either..."
When riding in the MDX, I found it entry level. The Honda(?) pedigree was evident and not impressive. It seemed it had what it needed but nothing beyond the basic function. Having to always listen to Government Mule:( didn't help any either.:bustingup BTW: I hate that guy. I had to make sure watever I drive is nicer than whatever he's driving and the X seems to cover it all.:D |
