This question goes out to all who have aftermarket hid kits installed on their X5 (low beam). Is there drilling involved (meaning, does one have to drill the cap on the back of the headlights so that the wiring can be connected?

Does anyone have pics?

Also, don't mean to keep bringing this back, but did anyone use wiring harness with relays? (35W & 55w kits).

finally, the most important request is can ppl post their aftermarket hid setups (eg. 35W 4500K, 55w 6K, etc) so that i can decide on what i want for my needs?

I don’t know if you are aware, bit it’s illegal to use an HID setup with halogen lenses. It’s pretty annoying when you are blinded by an oncoming vehicle with one of these make shift conversions.

I think you mean having xenon lights without projectors maybe..... I don't see how the lenses on the headlamp unit itself would make all that much of a difference.

It also probably varies on a state to state basis.

I believe it is illegal to have HID's on non projectors because light will be scattered everywhere. But the OP has an '05(just read your post in bimmerforums).

To the OP, I'm in the same boat as you. Research do pay off. You are lucky I am willing to share mine. This guy wrote an a thread with pics awhile back http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...hlight=ballast. I believe what he used is a 35W and no error. 6k seems bluish even on a 55w ballast. It's between 5k 55w or 4.5 35w for me. Do a search on bimmerforums/ddmtuning section forum for 55w. There is a thread titled 'pics of 5k 55w' or something. It has a pic of a 5k 55w and 4.5 35w side by side and they are almost identical. 04+ projectors will create a hint of blue from far away. Higher kelvins will intensify the blue hue and lessen visibility. 55w will be whiter than 35w on the same kelvin rating. Hope that helped.
