How can I improve the performance of my X5 4.4i E53 2002??? Exhaust???? Chips???

Hi,
Any recommendations for a performance exhaust for a 2002 X5 E53 4.4i sport package model.

I heard the the Meisterschaft and the B&B on a Youtube link and like their deep throaty sound. Any other recommendations??

I would like the exhaust to sound deep and throaty with that V8 rumble.

What else can I use to improve on the performance of the X5??

AFE Cold Air Intake is one reasonably priced mod. A little bit of a performance increase, and you can definately hear the difference

Hi.

Any suggestion on the exhaust???

It doesn't give any error messages. Its a simple mod. Pull out the top half of the old factory air box, pull out the old air filter, install AFE heat shield, install AFE cone filter. Mod Complete.

You can get it in many places. Modbargains.com (talk to james, very helpful). Bavauto.com or you can also get it at afefilters.com.

Here is a picture off my 3.0i. The CAI for the V8 will be on the other side of the engine and slightly different.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Is the AFE better than a K&N?

They are about the same. More of a cosmetic upgrade than any real performance difference.

No chip, exhaust, or intake modification is going to make any significant difference to the power. The only thing that really does make more power is a supercharger, but that is $$$.

Not completely true.

Exhaust and intake mods will not make any noticeable performance improvements and a non stock foam/gauze type filter like a K+N that relies on dirt sticking to oil rather than filtering particle size can cause damage to the MAF meter if over-oiled but a remap (chip) WILL make a noticeable difference (around 20 bhp) if done properly both in performance and driveability.

Induction kits/Cone filters only change the sound at high throttle opening too, will sound no different on low/part throttle.

To get a SIGNIFICANT power hike then supercharging is the only option.

Remove the twin in/twin out front silencer, it removes 17 Lbs and gives the sound you describe, and costs peanuts to do. £150 in stainless if you can't be bothered to do it yourself or about 2 hours and £10 DIY.
