BMW X5 REAR SUBFRAME BUSHES REMOVED/REPLACED WITH EASE ??

Saw this today on ebay.co.uk

Basically a listing which is offering 4 bushes plus weeks hire of a special tool to assist in changing rear bushes.

Listing seems to have been written bysomeone with X5 knowledge, & seller appears to be a reputable powerseller albeit selling mobilty equipment and no other X5 kit.

Please take time to click on link below and comment

Sellers feedback has positive comments from another powerseller who used same

Cant recall anybody on here prior mentioning this tool or procedure and wonder why dealers dont use something similar.

I know PhoenixMotorsport are very big on tool supply and rental and they are currently doing a fair bit of stuff for the X5 although it's not on their website yet.

They manufacture Polyeurethane bushes and suspension components such as anti-roll bar kits, lowering springs, camberplates and a strut brace as well as a few other parts like drilled disc and pad kits.

Maybe worth seeing if they do Poly subframe bushes and have the tool?

And the design of that tool is what the dealer uses. We just don't rent tools out, shop use only.

So maybe worthwhile for a diy job..........pity nobody has used/hired/borrowed such a tool when posting a diy guide/article

Perhaps I am missing something as uk dealers seem to quote labour hours for dropping the axle/subframe ?

??? I don't see how you could pull the bushings without lowering the subframe as the bushings are what bolts the subframe to the chassis! The bolts through the center of the bushings are the mounting bolts.

If you need to hire a tool in the UK Specialist Garage Tools For Hire offers a tool at a reasonable price and includes a ratchet spanner which makes the task MUCH easier and quicker.

Or, from the designers of the Powerflex X5 bushes..........

RENTAL, BMW X5 E53 REAR SUBFRAME BUSH TOOL RENTAL | eBay

With the tool, the subframe does require lowering but not removing and all 4 bushes can be done comfortably in about 90 minutes.

rear sub mountings

if you drop the exhaust mount ports, then heat the rods that mount the exhaust cherry red and straighten you can do the job without removing exhaust, do job and rebend exhaust rods, saves hours.

Did that as well in stead off removing the rod.
Maybe 5 minutes extra work but well worth it.
Those support rods are there for a reason...
