Makes me want to do it even sooner. I'm definitely doing this upgrade though.

sprite007 01-16-2009 09:40 PM

I also went the ddm hid route. Much cheaper imo. I went with 35W slim & 5K for the low beams. I did have to put in the bulb out modules which negates the check lowbeam light error on start up.

Mister2 & twinspoppa - my question to you is, when you start the car up and immediately turn on the headlights, does the hid's come on... Reason being, for me, i would say that i have to wait like 15 secs or so to turn on the lights so that the check lowbeam light is not displayed and the xenons light up..

overall i think this is a good and economical product...

Mister2 has the 55W and I have the 35W slimline ballasts. With the warning code module mine light up right away. Some people I think were having startup probs in very cold weather but mine fire right up.

So, you upgraded your main-beams (low beams) with HID not your fogs like I did, right? I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Maybe there's a difference in stock wattage for your headlights vs the fogs? Could that be a factor? I think they sell larger gauge wiring harnesses supposedly to eliminate problems for the 55W version:
http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c..._2034_18879030

"HID Accessory Harness:
Use this relay harness to connect HIDs to cars with very small gauge wiring that cannot supply the initial surge current required to light the bulbs reliably. Symptoms indicating the harness is required would be intermittant starting or lights going out after being turned on for several minutes and requiring you to turn the lights off and back on for them to turn back on again.

Recommended for all 50W HID installations but most American and European cars work at 35W/50W without the harness. The harness is definitly recommended for Quad's and other ATVs or when running multiple HID installtions. This harness is a fused relay isolation harness capable of supplying 40A at 12vdc"

I don't know for sure but I think you should call them (like I did). Explain the problem and see what they say. They should know their kits better than us.

Good luck getting it resolved and update us.

Pics - HID Fogs, AIv3.0 vs ebayAE and whiter DRLs

What I have installed in the pics:

Turn Signals/Parking lamps = Solaris Invisibulbs (non-ultrabright)
Angel Eyes = Angelibright v3.0 (left) & Ebay AE 6000K (right)
DRLs = Xenon-match bulb from angelibright.com (left) & stock H1 bulb (right)
Bi-xenons = stock bulbs on both
Fogs = DDM Tuning HID Kit, H11 bulbs, 35W, 6000K

No Headlights, no fogs (Left w/o flash & Right with flash): All pics without flash exaggerate the brightness - lights are NOT this bright!
http://thumbnails9.imagebam.com/2387/cca4a823864331.gif http://thumbnails11.imagebam.com/238...8f23864327.gif

All lights on with flash:
http://thumbnails5.imagebam.com/2387/b025c523864297.gif

Angel Eyes (w/o flash): Left = AIB v3.0 vs. Right = $45 Ebay AEs
http://thumbnails8.imagebam.com/2387/c7578e23864293.gif http://thumbnails11.imagebam.com/238...d323864317.gif

DRLs w/o flash: Left = Xenon-match bulb vs. Right = stock bulb
http://thumbnails2.imagebam.com/2387/750e2923864296.gif http://thumbnails11.imagebam.com/238...7423864323.gif

Color Temp Comparison w/o flash: Left = Stock Bi-xenons only vs. Right = with HID 6000K fogs
http://thumbnails10.imagebam.com/238...fd23864304.gif http://thumbnails13.imagebam.com/238...4323864302.gif

AIB v3.0 vs. Ebay AE LED bulb:
http://thumbnails10.imagebam.com/238...5123864292.gif http://thumbnails9.imagebam.com/2387/4da03623864291.gif

Xenon-match vs. stock H1 bulb:
http://thumbnails3.imagebam.com/2387/906b8523864314.gif http://thumbnails8.imagebam.com/2387/8cb35d23864309.gif

Observations:
- HID fog upgrade on 04+ models does NOT require cutting of fogs
- HID fog upgrade w/o projectors does NOT mean you will blind people
- Pics of lighting w/o flash exaggerate direct light sources. Now, I realize the AIB v3.0 LED bulbs are NOT as bright as the pics - but they're still the brightest available.
- Xenon-match bulbs from angelibright.com ($66 shipped on sale) are marked GP Thunder. GP thunder are normally $20 shipped from Ebay.
- Original reason I bought the new DRL bulbs were I heard from LI-X5 that they effectively turn off the DRLs but will still function as flashers. These don't turn off the DRLs but LI-X5 is double-checking his bulb type. Maybe I have the wrong ones but I'll update this post once I hear back from him.

Hope this info. helps.

Nice write up. Thanks. I am ordering the HID kit for fogs from HDNY today. Not a huge DIY'er but will give it a shot and post results next week.

Mine is always on auto and it fires up on start up. It has been zero and below the past couple of days. No problem on start up. Try calling ddm and see if you can get a trade. It could be the unit.

Nice! Lovin the lights.

Is there no cap on the fogs? How come it does not need any cutting?

On my 04 fogs (non-projector) I did not have to remove a cap to replace the bulb. You just twist and remove/replace the bulb and holder assembly from the outside surface of the fog lights. I don't remember if the bulb housing asssembly is connected directly to the fog housing or a cap. It doesn't really matter as, you can access it from the outside and not have to remove a cap - if there is indeed a cap. I'll post pics later when I have a chance.

On the projector type fogs, you have to remove a cap to get to the bulb. The bulb holder is part of the fogs - it's not removable.

When you do the HID upgrade the new wires from the harness need to go to the bulb THROUGH the cap somehow. That's why you have to cut/mod the cap on the projecor type fogs.
