Getting that itch
Someone convince me there's not enough of a difference between my 2001 4.4i sport that drives like new and a 2004 4.4i sport to warrant picking up a car payment. For those in the know what are the differences? 2 04 sports for sale here locally (50000 miles and cpo'd, low 20s price tag). Also an 06 4.4 sport with 33000 miles for 25,000 120 miles away (glad it's not closer). Mainly looking for differences in 01 to 04+ model years

No need. If you were going to go up to a 4.6is or 4.8is then it would be worth it. Otherwise, I say be happy with what you got. Unless, you are wanting something newer to avoid repair costs.
From Edmunds; What's New for 2004 The high-performance X5 4.6is is discontinued. The 3.0i and 4.4i receive an exterior update, as well as a new all-wheel-drive system called xDrive. A six-speed manual transmission is now standard on the 3.0i, and a six-speed automatic is standard on the 4.4i. The 4.4i also receives a new 4.4-liter engine with Valvetronic and a fully variable intake system. Both models can add Sirius Satellite Radio and Bluetooth hands-free cell phone capability as dealer-installed accessories. Plus, everything I have read says that the pre-facelift 4.4's pull like beasts off the line and the 04's+ have a slightly different engine feel. |
As long as you are pleased with your 01, it doesn't matter what the difference is. There is something unique about every X5. I always look at my 3.0, and always wish i purchased the 4.8, but I still love my 3.0 and would never get rid of it.

:iagree: Keep the '01. It has immediate, neck jerking pick up off the line. :wow: I'm not sure but I think they changed it after '01. |
