"on board computer" gas consumption does it really work?
 

Everytime i recalculate reads between 16.4 and sometimes 17. Is this accurate? :dunno: keep it coming guys... :thumbup:

That mileage seems normal for an X5. I'm not sure I completely understand your question.. But unless you change your driving style, your average MPG should stay at a consistant reading.

What X5 model/year do you have? Is this for city driving, highway driving or combination?

well i have a 4.4 2002 X5. my on board comp reads me consump 1 and 2 i dont know if one is for city and one for highway... not sure.

I am not sure about the consump 1 and 2 since I do not have that on mine but I doubt this has anything to do with city vs highway since the car could not guess what is city vs highway driving ;) However for a 4.4 2002 I would say that this MPG would be pretty good for a 50/50 city/highway driving with a relatively light foot, at least this is my experience. The best MPG I got with mine was 22MPG on a 3hours highway trip (80mph) without the AC on. The worst I got was 12MPG city driving on a very hot days this summer.

The Comsuptions 1 and 2 can be set for trips, etc. Think of #1 as the odometer, keeping track of all cumulative milage, and #2 as the trip odometer, which you can reset at will.

I believe mine works fine. You just have to drive for a lil while to get a good reading. I wish it had better "instant" mpg and not the analog gauge.
Anyway no problems with it for me.

I just got done towing a 1955 Chevy (total weight = 5200#) and I did 16mpg@56mph on a 200 mile trip.

Yeah, I think it "works", as an Indicator...by that I mean if left un-reset, it will show a
cumulative average over the miles covered. I dunno about "1 & 2", as I don't think I have that
on my '01.

I recall some info that suggests it is a "rolling 200 mile" algorithm, but not certain about that;
that IS the situ on my '02 Vette: a 200 mile "loop", if you will.

I've reset mine only a few times in 45K+ miles and I show 20.1 on my '01 3.0 5 Spd manual, but revs are Very high at fast highway miles.

The "instant reading", as in when you clear it and up pops a reading, is just that: a snap shot of
current fuel usage converted to "mpg".

My understanding is its reading injector flow and does not use a fuel flow meter as such...

I've done a LOT of long trip, high speed highway miles, ( prob. 85% of the miles on the car), and many fillup to fillup tests. I suspect the mpg reading is a tad high vs. actual over the course of
doing the arith on several back to back, fill to the brim, tank fulls.
