Xoutpost.com - 2005 UK 3.0d - No power starting from cold?! Help!

Hi all, just signed up after picking up the above a couple of days ago :-)

Loving it so far, but have had a bit of a problem a couple of times now. When it's cold the engine seems to not want to let me have any power or let the revs get up - this morning taking the dog out it was fine when I pulled out of my drive but I got half way up the road and it just cut right back. I'm thinking it might be the engine protecting itself until it's warmed up?!

Do I need to do anything differently other than just jumping in and driving off? This morning it was just crawling up a hill at 20 mph and I had my foot on the floor and some old dear in a Focus right up my arse - not quite the driving experience I was envisaging!!! Even tried popping it into Sport, then going to semi-auto and trying different gears, but still no power. After a few mins it was back to normal??
