Final Stage Resistor.......
.......Ah-hah!
Once again, I got it! It's like the blower resistor motor switch component that I had to replace at the same time in both my '95 Ford Windstar and my '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee late last year. In both vehicles the fan continually operated at their highest speeds........ Thanx again! |
Thanks to all
Thank you all for your inputs. It sure is nice to have a group soo willing to share information. I will be doing a brake job on my X5 soon and will attempt to take some pictures and post the part numbers and results.
According to the Zeckhausen website, it appears that the front rotors and hubs underwent a change around 8/2000. Up until 8/2000 the rotors had additional mounting holes. These mated with dowels which were mounted in the hubs. If my car has these. I'll take some pictures. My X5 was manufactured in 6/2000, so it may very well have this hub type. |

Thermostat, Water Pump and Radiator flush - DIY
Hey,
But the best one: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...iy-photos.html but someone removed the pics....why? I have no idea. This one: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ment-pics.html, though a Water Pump DIY, will take you to the Thermostat itself. I'm ready to order and install a Stewart water pump and also change my thermostat and drive belts at the same time but I, too, would like to see a comprehensive DIY posting that covers replacing the Thermostat, Water Pump as well as the proper procedure to flush (or at least drain and replace) the coolant..... If you or anyone comes up with anything, will you post it for all of us? Thanx! |
We have thermostats and coolant availabe as well as everything need to do a cooling system overhaul:

Still looking for step-by-step DIY articles on replacing a water pump and thermostat
....but do you guys have any step-by-step DIY articles (for newbies) on replacing a water pump and thermostat on an E53 M54 3.0i? That's what we're looking for prior to buying the replacement water pump, hoses, belts, fan blade, idler pulley and drain plugs.... :dunno:

Goto www.e38.org. We share the same motor, so all techniques are the same and we've even found solutions for things (that it seems) most X5 owners haven't quit gotten familiar with.

....thanx a million! That's a cool site with a lot of useful info. I'll be making it my dual 'BMW machine' resource!!

Glad to help...have fun, it's a messy job
Oops, sorry...I just noticed you have the 3.0 :D I'd check websites like www.e46fanatics.com or www.bimmerforums.com then, i'm pretty sure they've got a write-up on it somewhere. For E53 specific things like body mods/kits, rims and offsets, certain stereo upgrads, etc...i'll only come here. For engine specific maintenance/upgrade stuff (V8 at least) i'll goto 540/740/840 forums since we've been doing things to the 3.5/4.0/4.4/4.6/4.8/5.0 V8 motor before the X5 was even being produced....4.8 swaps, auto to 6spd conversions, etc. Since we share the same block/motor, MANY things are interchangeable. For example, no one specifically made headers for the 540/740, but being that the M5 is the same block, eventually people figured out they'd bolt right up. For those w/ the 3.0 motor, i'd go straight to 3 series forums as they've been modding, upgrading and maintenance write-ups longer than all of us put together. |
