Thank you.

It can also be the "steering angle sensor"
I was having the same problem and that was the cause.

DSC light can be a number of things other than the ABS sensors and steering angle sensor... I would get the faults read before you guess at any parts to replace. And if it is the steering angle sensor, it would need to be calibrated by either the dealer or a shop with BMW's equiptment/software for calibrations/initializations.

Two case:

1. Just the DSC light on, ABS and Brake light do not on;
2. DSC, ABS and Brake lights all on.

Case 1, it could be very expensive to fix it since most of the cases are caused by the DSC control module or pre-charge pump;
Case 2, lots of possibilities, just like what weasel56 said, but most of the cases are caused by steering angle sensor or ABS sensor/or called pulse generator sensor.

Good luck to you.

recent offroad excursion due to a flat drove on it and the alignment is way off toe in or out ...will that steering angle sensor be sensitive enough to trigger the DSC warning? . I get it triggered after 10 miles or so of driving

Weasel 02-28-2009 09:10 PM

Yes it can/will throw the DSC light. The DSC unit see's the vehicle as turning a bit through the steering angle sensor (on steering shaft) but see's the vehicle as going straight through the wheel speed sensors... hence can/will throw a plausibility fault.
