PROFILE 2000

The part number seems to have changed on this item, BMW had it as 82710005998. Does anybody know the current part # for this Base Support System? If you have this part on your X, kindly post some pics....Thanks

TaMbALoLoNg 01-09-2009 12:05 AM

I need your expertice on this weasel....

Weasel 01-09-2009 12:09 AM

If the part# has changed, you would need to call the parts counter guys at the local dealer for the new part#... or try the almighty google!

Pulled this search: http://www.google.com/search?q=bmw+p...ient=firefox-a

and clicked this link: http://bmw.dealerfit.com/store/bmw-x...1389_13913.php

X5 Meister 01-10-2009 12:24 AM

Are you sure about that. My understanding is that the 453, 998 and 053 are all older versions and the latest one is 82-71-0-415-056. Can you post pictures of your 453?

TaMbALoLoNg 01-10-2009 03:56 AM

The 453 is the 998 it just superceeds it as the new part #. Why BMW changed the part# we'll never know.

X5 Meister 01-10-2009 11:21 AM

Okay, but I've seen numerous different pictures of different styles. It would be interesting to see part numbers matched with photos.

453

X5 Meister 01-10-2009 12:06 PM

Thanks for the pic. That is a very old style rack. So if that's definitely the 453 and based on what Tambalolong said it would also be the 998 rack then there is no way that is the current style rack. BTW, the Profile 2000 in general is an old style rack, the current racks are not called Profile 2000.

Current as to for the E53 or E70? the 453 is the latest OEM, sure there are more choices (yakima, thule) but i prefer OEM.

X5 Meister 01-13-2009 02:42 AM

We are talking about the E53 racks. In the latest accessories catalog there is a different rack then the silver 453 rack. It looks much better and has a nice aerodynamic profile. The 'profile 2000' racks look like they were designed in, well, the year 2000.

Weasel 01-13-2009 03:02 AM

Many options for OEM racks as well...

Hmm..sez Max 100 Kg on each bar. That's only 220 lbs. Is that enough? Or is that per bar for a combined max of 440 lbs?

Weasel 01-14-2009 12:59 AM

if it says that on each individual bar, then I'd think thats max load per bar... Either way I'll not likely come close to that with a kayak...

X5 Meister 01-14-2009 12:38 PM

That's the 453? Because it looks nothing like the picture you posted previously from the catalogue.

jayjay_dee 01-14-2009 12:49 PM

is it lockable?

X5-4-Fighting 01-14-2009 02:32 PM

Nice RACK, Tambalolong!
Just being curious, what are you going to be carrying on your rack?

It's the older style, but I love my rack, especially this time of year!... haha

X5-4-Fighting 01-16-2009 06:48 PM

Looks good Tambalolong!

Whether old or new, the BMW rack designs are awesome; all the different attachments simply slide into the railings. Other non-oem rack systems seem to stick out the sides too much.

I appreciate your complement. I have 1 more trick up my sleeves not ready to post it until next Friday, i have not seen anybody do it yet so far so you guys might like it, if not it's ok too.

Weasel 01-16-2009 10:45 PM

Let me guess... you're gonna install the MATTRAX system on all 4 wheels and go driving over deeeep snow and in the swamps!

FYI. I have these same racks. You can remove those two extension pieces at the ends of each crossbar. I did that with mine and it sits lower on the roof.

Which part number is that older rack style? I actually kinda like it better than the newer one. I even like the idea that you can have it sit lower if you remove the base part. Thats more of what I'd like.

Looks like the current rack PN is: 82 71 0 415 053
