What would be your 2 favorite mods you've done to YOUR OWN ride? 1 for personalizing(appearance-wise) and 1 for performance. There's so many out there, just conducting a survey and might see something I like. Mine so far are:

Carbon Fiber Door Pillars - I have no regrets on this:thumbup:
Style 87 Chrome 20's - My top FAV:cool:

PersonaNonGrata 01-10-2009 09:05 PM

M Sport/M3/M5 steering wheel is far and away the best mod, especially for the buck. It's something you use every single moment of your X5 experience. HP increase: 57. :nanana:

I retrofitted Anthracite Maple wood myself and it was a satisfying DIY that looks great. It's also unique because my X5 is an '02 and that color of trim was not available that year. :D HP increase: 33 if 94 octane gas is used.

I've got other mods but these two are simple pleasures.

Michelle 01-10-2009 09:05 PM

Angel Eyes and OEM 20" 87's

X5Newb 01-10-2009 09:16 PM

I haven't done too many mods yet (and the cost of things are already scaring me :P ), but ...

I love the M Steering wheel (E46 style) that I installed. I was originally was going to retrofit to my e36 318ti, but when I got the E53 X5, it became a direct swap and a no-brainer (I took the plunge to install it when the battery up and died).

I just placed orders for Intravee II, Alpine KCA-420i, CableJive 6' extension, Scocshe iPhone 3G charge adapter and soon a spec dock so I can iPod/iPhone the X5. This should make trips to the mountains to ski much more enjoyable and I'm very much looking forward to having all of it installed.

Performance? Dedicated winter tires with their own winter rims. Pirelli Scorp Snow and Ice. The difference is amazing from all seasons. And we rarely get snow.... Total cost $650 including rims! U gotta LOVE craigslist!!!

Other mod. DICE unit for ipod. Has Aux input for watching DVD's off the laptop as well...$80 self install (easy) off Ebay. (local p/u).

Bimmer Ese 01-10-2009 10:56 PM

///M steering wheel and style 132 wheels. Never looked back since.

Exhaust silencer removed for small resonators (shoulda went x-pipe) but still sounds great.

Smoked tail lights gave a new, meaner look to the rear or ol' girl.

Next up will be either AFE CAI or JL stealth box 10"er.

RichiRich 01-10-2009 11:27 PM

Damn! too many to choose from..

KW coilovers
cai/resonator delete(xpipe)/supersprint exhaust

Do you have pics of LED tail lights? Where can I find a pair?

haigha 01-11-2009 09:39 PM

Valentine One with Stealth One (especially before the auto-dismiss warning message on the NAV was available through BMW software).

Rial Daytona Race 20" wheels. Best non-OEM wheels, IMO (biggest surprise: brake dust is practically invisible).

mtX5 01-11-2009 11:42 PM

Custom Angel Eye headlights and HID fogs 6000k
Style 87s staggered and AFE CAI

bigfish 01-12-2009 12:17 AM

my favorite two mods.......

Aesthetically I would say roof rack delete was the biggest bang for the buck. As far as performance goes, it's a dead even between Brembo BBK and Dinan SC!

Do you have pics with the off-road mud flaps? I don't think I've ever seen them. Thanks!

I'm looking forward to hearing that sweet sound. I will try to get a sound clip and post it. Any suggestions on the best way to record the sound clip?

video camera or camcorder would be the simplest way..

Weasel, can you post a large version of your signature pic? thanks

Weasel 01-15-2009 01:15 AM

I need to update that pic... the truck looks the same, but the house looks totally different! I'll take a new pic soon, and post the before and after just for effect.

TaMbALoLoNg 01-15-2009 01:24 AM

Just dont drive the X into the house. :D

Probably will get great sound quality but I don't have access or time to go that route. Camcorder as suggested is the route I'd go.

page 5 ownd

1.performance mod = the purchase of the bmw, i moded my parking space (does that count)

2. visual mod = bosch icon wipers woohooo

more to come upgrading all the lighting to match my xeon ie: fog, DYL, AE

teknic 02-27-2009 06:08 AM

Intravee II, Eisenmann Race

jst2878 02-27-2009 09:51 AM

168's 20", and angel eyes, and m steering wheel with paddleshift.

donibm 07-22-2011 12:30 PM

For me, I think it ... everything. Hard to pick one over the other. But blacked out taillights make a HUGE difference from the back.

mirror assembly, mirror covers and window trim have the biggest impact from the side (though roof extention looks sportier as well).

cant really notice the front eyelids, but definately can notice the LUX V3 white eyes, and my grill and grill surround are distinctive.

The lest important are the things I've done to the interior, like the gas/brake pedals and mats, etc.

Gixxerboy63 07-25-2011 04:29 PM

#1. Underride protection bar
#2. M3 steering wheel (it actually feels like I did $1000 performance upgrade to the suspension)

blueagle 07-25-2011 07:57 PM

1) Dual exhaust muffler and tips

2) front and rear spoiler

Now my X5 has a mean look..........

nigwhyrito 07-26-2011 02:50 PM

Interior mod (1) I would love to put the the sun blinds on the rear quarter windows and rear windshield. but alas part can no longer be found in USA or germany.

Exterior mod (1) Euro clear headlights.. would love to mod my X with them.

ammadrid 08-22-2011 12:26 AM

1. Remus pipes
2. Pine tree air freshener

huntertec 08-22-2011 05:55 AM

Impossible to pick 1 of each as I've done too many mods and their all my favorites, they all make my X what is is today compared to its standard form so I'll have to pick 2 of each :D for performance..remapped ECU/Modified exhaust result = 203Kw/615Nm(diesel), for exterior..X6M wheels, 4.8is lip spoilers. Sorry I cheated. (Also done Stoptech big brake kit all round, lowered with Eibach springs, Le mans wheelarch flares, BMW Motorsport International badges, Thats all.:D

4.8isrocks 08-22-2011 04:13 PM

1-AFE cold air intake system stage 2
2- X pipe
It Sound amazing
