we have a DICE unit that is great. I understand the new versions are even faster. Was a fast simple install too.

MY05 Business CD-equipped X5s are MP3/WMA compatible, but lack text display.

The DICE would be a better option:

I have one of the first '06 X5s and it is MP3 / Text capable - it displays the data on the nav screen from the CD changer

CD Changer is a different story. I'm referring to the deck only.

Hi guys, a dumb question. What is the easier way to find out if my 6-disc CD changer is capable of playing MP3 files? I wouldn't want to just stick one in and play it as I had some bad experience before that the mp3 had ruinned my previous car stereo which did not support mp3 format. Any good advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Easiest way would be to insert a MP3 CD and see if it works.

Would it ruin my existing CD system as it did happen to my previous car before?

Nope. I have done it and no damages. Your previous car must have some other issues as CDs cannot damage unless you have something sticking on CD. Discs are read by laser and nothing physically touches the disc when it plays.

Thanks for the advice. Perhaps I get a bit scared by the article published here...http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq05.html#S5-23
